$60 games are okay or are they?

Segatron Genesis... call me the wizard.
A majority of consumers are actually fine with the $60 price tags on brand new games.

According to this article, the consumers are okay with it.

What do you think? $59.99 is still too steep or it's decent?

I say it's fair, like Left 4 Dead, Fallout 3, GTA4, and Tales of Vesperia I spent $59.99. Was I doubtful of the price? Heck no! The replay value is always worth it!

YET, there are certain games, you know who they are, that needed a price adjustment. So it's more of a matter of quality I would say? Let's see what you guys thinks.

I agree. The price is fine considering the what goes into the creation of the game, and the need to get cash back for it. But, it's like with a car. The company may have spent a mere 2K on building it, sold it for 3K, and the car shop then sells it for 8K. Just as an example there, it's not entirely accurate, of course.

Though, there are some games that just aren't worth the full RRP, but, it all depends on everyone's tastes. One game you or me may say isn't worth it may be for someone else.

If I had a nickel for every quarter I dumped into arcade games,I'd be....huh?

I'd like to know where they get their data from.

Most people I talk to state they are not ok with it... and the price is ridiculous. I agree. This is why ripping console games is still a wide practice... especially Xbox 360 games.

I think the information they are feeding is "misinformation" and trying to find reason to justify their higher pricing. That's my 2 cents though.

I agree.

If my friends and I didn't pool all our consoles, controllers, and games together, there's not a single one of us who would be able to play all the games they wanted, or even a fraction thereof. Especially now, with the lack of split screen multiplayer in most games, it makes it exponentially more expensive to play games offline than it used to be. Its no longer a matter of one friend getting a console, and the others pitching in for a few extra controllers and a game, its a matter of buying multiple consoles for each player, copies of a single game, (in some cases) paying for an online account, and so forth. I wouldn't really have a problem paying $60 for a game of greater value than those of yesteryear, but when games of the last generation are selling for $5-$20 and they support more play modes than $60 games, it definitely doesn't seem proportionate.

Unless you're a super hardcore gamer, or you've got a lot of spending money, its just not possible to stay current and play a wide variety of games. I think the people that are "ok" (which doesn't mean the same thing as "in favor of") with a $60 price tag either have enough dough to lay down it doesn't matter what the price is, love gaming so much they sacrifice many other purchases to pay for their games, or they only buy a couple games a year. In any of those scenarios, I don't believe they represent the majority of gamers out there.

I hate that you have to pay that extra to do multiplayer these days! It's so annoying. What ever happened to the classic where you could have four people per console, and up to 16 via system link??

And I think I fall under that, "ok" but not in "favour of" category Stealth. I love gaming so much I sacrifice other luxuries when I have the cash to obtain a game I really want.. though, I've cut down now and I try to increase my funding for Anime these days, and wait longer for games to be decreased in price or else be pre-owned... also gives me some extra cash for the occasional drink then as well.

and just to solve your problem there Kaz, you'd be " (1-25)x "... wait... how much value is a Nickle?... One cent, right?

Yea. Count me in the "not ok" with it group. It is just so hard for me to justify spending that much money on something like a video game. I mean, they are just games after all. Think about it, if you went and bought 2 new video games it would cost you $120! That's pretty insane, no? I've pretty much gotten to the point where I will not spend more than $30 for a single game, no matter how good it is. Just my 2 cents.

I don't like the $60 prices. It's just hard to actually buy a game. Harder to convince someone to get it for a gift or something...

I'm ok with, but definately not in favor of the price tag. I can go out and buy a new 360 once a month and be happy. I usually find myself spending a little less and buying a portable game though.

I'm not so sure it bothers me.

I look back to the prices of games before the "Greatest Hits" concept was born. The prices were brutal,in the truest sense of the word.Just think about what the prices would be like today without the "Greatest Hits" concept,or used games for that matter. You gotta take the good with the bad,no?

God Bless,

Just curious... what game(s) did that?

I agree... even though cart based games WERE this expensive before they were phased out... and I didn't complain about the prices at that time... I think the current formats are grossly overpriced.

I rarely buy new games these days because of the price tag (and great values on older games) so I'm definitely not ok with $60 for new games.
I agree once again... I do not buy many newer games anymore. I only have about 6 exceptions to my last sentence. PC games barred from this discussion that is :)

Honestly... I am surprised the gaming market is booming as much as it is. Honestly... the general attitude towards gaming prices are the same as what you are reading in this thread. IMO it seems that more and more... people are not buying as many new games as they used to.

Well, xbox live is a paid service, for instance....plus you gotta pay for nearly all MMO's. Dunno if thats what he had in mind...

Maybe not into buying games, but they are into buying consoles (particularly Nintendo ones) and whatever game Nintendo decides to bundle with their peripherals. Nintendo is responsible for most of the growth, to be honest.
