Are video game covers copyrighted and can they be used on a someone site

hello since there is alot of people on this forum i think i came to the right spot for info. Me and my freind are starting a website and we come across others gaming site that are posting video game covers and pics of games in there site some site are Big time and some are small sites like mines which dont have the dollers or multiple devolpers to make my site really good. So what i am asking is if i post pics of the video game covers on my site will i get in trouble or do i have to find pics of the actual game play and post those as covers...I have posted all game images in this site are copyrighted by there respected holder would that be enough if not what are the measures i have to take to achieve i will not get in trouble.

You can use them. I used to have a website with game covers and screen shots. I know that websites and magazines do not pay for permission to post those.

You are restricted in the methods in which you use them. You cannot ever benefit from copyrighted material (as in manufacture something with copyrighted images on them), you cannot take screenshots/cover art and claim them to be your own making.
