Atlus RPG's..why so rare and expensive?

I've been noticing that the majority of Atlus's RPG's {Nocturne, wizardry, Disgaea, etc} are really expensive and really hard to find. They all seem to get very good reviews so I wonder why they dissapear so quick? Any thoughts on this?

Disgaea is expensive?

MAN... I should have bought all Circuit City had... Last year, they heavily discounted them out at $5-15 each or something like that.

Sometimes RPGs do this.  They become sought after (people finally see them as a good game, there was a smaller production, OR the production may have been normal but there is just a great demand for them)..... and therefore the price rises.

Look at the old Snes RPGs..... Final Fantasy 3, 2, robotrek..etc.

Bv :hat

You really should have because every place I've looked Disgaea is going for $40-50 used. It's just odd that they discontinue these games so fast. I figured maybe they just don't sell very good, but they keep coming out with new games so who knows.

I think there is this ideal with the production company that these games will only be sought after by people who are just into RPG's, this doesn't include a lot of FF diehards like myself :-[, so when the casual game (like me) actually does some research and finds out how much value and depth these game experiences have they will go to great monetary lengths to get the game!

why is it that a(relatively)large percentage of RPG's maintain a high value or even go up in value were most other games do not?the exceptions are of course limited production games, prototypes, etc etc..when looking for classic games(SNES,Genesis,TG16,Saturn..)the RPG's are almost always the most expensive.

I think it may be that developers put a larger amount of time and energy into an RPG than, say, a sports game or racing game. I love playing them for the story. The battles are just the icing on the cake.

Lower production numbers. Higher demand. There could be a laundry list of reasons. I do know that there are gamers out there that accidentally pick up an RPG, get hooked and are now on a quest to pick up just about every RPG in existance. I did that. I loved racing games. I have a LOT of racing games. I picked up Legend of Dragoon one day for $6. Now my RPG collection rivals my racing collection. And if there's a low supply, and the demand increases, so will the price.

I know what you mean. I've seen copies of Persona at several Gamestops and Eb Games shops at $30 used. Not too bad, but well expensive for a used PS1 game. RPG's, especially nonmainstream rpg's, tend to not be produced in the heavy numbers as most other games making them much harder to find. A great example of this is Valkyrie Profile. I can't for the life of me find this thing anywhere. I should say the U.S. version of it. Because games like these are so rare the prices get jacked up.

Good Point on the Valkyrie Profile game!

You ain't kiddin'. I was keepin' an eye on one particular auction for VP on Friday and let's just say my jaw darn near crashed through the floor. A used copy in very good condition went for around $113. :o :o :o That is just waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too rich for my blood. :-\

Dang it why the heck didn't I buy a copy when they were more readily available? Heck I wished I'd have bought several. Coulda made a heck of a profit off 'em.

Yeah same here the sad thing is that I had VP for a while! Then leant it to a friend and he totally messed it up! Sad day especially now when i see it going for $100+ on ebay!
