Hi Members!

My brother and I were watching some old footage of us as young kids while cleaning the attic out. They were old recordings of us on a farm near where our cottage in Belyea's Cove N.B.At any rate, there is footage of me as a young child making my way into a pen full of cows.I wanted to pet them.As I was about to enter,my uncle scooped me up and told me not to go in because there was a Bull in there.

My brother said ..."Lucky you, that Bull would have attacked you.I said...no way, that bull will recognize me as a child and not hurt me.Once again my brother said.."I'm telling you..he would attack you.So me and my brother made a bet.I bet him $50.00 that the Bull would sense my youth and spare me,my brother said .."No way in heck.."

So now we have this wager,I tried several sites to find the truth, but no luck. You fellow members in this forum seem well educated,so who's right?

God Bless,
MR.KAZ

It would depend on a number of factors, probably. But I doubt your youth would've played a part.

If the bull felt threatened for whatever reason, you can bet your $50 he'd come after you.

Bulls have no maternal instinct, and don't actually raise kids so I doubt it would have made a difference.

That's an excellent observation Homicidal.Bulls are male.I never thought of it that way.

P.S. Can I borrow $50.00?

The bull would have killed you, heck, my lil bro almost got stomped to death by a calf as a toddler. But adult male animals are usually aggressive in nature.

Yeah, it depends on the bull's personality too, some or more tempermental than others, and their age and physical fitness and such. But generally bulls are pretty aggressive animals. I have a few friends that live on farms and raise cattle, but one in particular used to have a bull that didn't seem to know when to quit. My friend's father would only go into its pen with a baseball bat in hand, and one day he had to use it. The Bull faired much better than the bat, which broke, and after being stunned for a moment or two the bull just kinda shook it off and carried on its way.

I can't say for certain that the bull you mentioned would have attacked you Kaz, but your brother made the right decision in not testing out that theory.

lol. Well, at least you learned all this the easy way and didn't go hopping in pens full of bulls. lol

Well, you could have stacked the odds in your favor a bit by having the testosterone-makers removed. Then you both could have just laughed it off over some steaks. :D

Cattle can shake off just about anything. I used to work on a farm, and sometimes when the cows would come in from the fields and into their stanchions, they'd just get into the stanchions and start chowing down on their yummies. Sometimes they wouldn't stick their head through the right part and trying to get them to back out and come back in the right way was really hard to do. You can hit them in the head with a shovel and they will just stand there eating. :o Usually the best way to back them out and get them back in the right way was by using a food they liked best. (I usually used corn.)
