Do Ps1 MEmory cards work with the PS2?

same with the ps multitap, also for the ps1 controller, it works with some ps2 games, but there are a few it gives you crap with
 
I'm not sure why Sony couldn't of let PSone saves work on PS2 cards, it hardly would of took up anything either.

When PS3 comes out, unless it can save PS2 games on whatever it's using (memory sticks?) it's gonna be a bit messy...
 
maybe since the games are in a different format, and read differently? or maybe its how the memory card pages? Not sure :)

How the hell did they do that? I mean you can't save PS1 games on PS2 memory cards so why would it let you do so on this game? :?
