Do your skills in video games increase when you're exhausted or tired?

MegaDrive20XX

Segatron Genesis... call me the wizard.
Example, you're playing a video game in the dead middle of the night. You know you're suppose to be in bed, but you just want to finish that one last area before you want to save. Have you noticed you're accuracy in the video game just shot up by 10-20%? It personally happens to me all the time and I really can't figure it out. It's like your brain goes on cruise control and says, "Screw it, I'm getting perfect head shots in Halo while this dummy sleeps! Now I can enjoy his game!" How can this happen, when I can't even keep my eyes open? Any one have this problem? (Well not really a problem, more like a mental booster from your brain telling you to hurry up and get to bed I think!)

I find both in playing pool and in playing Counter-Strike: Source that I sometimes overthink both games. If I am more laid back and not stressing over performance, I tend to have more fun and perform at a higher level.

Conversely, I recall practicing wall jumping in Super Metroid for quite a while when I had first gotten the game. It was late at night and I was getting really frustrated with the technique. (Keep in mind this is back in the SNES days.) However, after a good night of sleep, I had the technique nailed, as if my brain really just needed some rest before tackling a new technique.

Yes, most recently in Shatter on PSN. There's a bonus mode where you have to keep three balls going at once. Usually my high school is 2,000,000. I was so exhausted...my fingers were just moving...my roommate was even awe-stricken. I got 10,000,000. It was pretty crazy.

There's a lot of truth in that.
It also happens to me a lot when I'm in a rush to get somewhere, i always seem to get my game finished quicker.

(btw, when I read the title of this topic, I was almost sure this was a Kaz question.) :lol

My chess does, but certainly not my video gaming skills.I become very impatient and more inclined just to turn the system off and watch TV.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. But I always think of more stupid things to do in GTA with my friends when I'm tired.

Definitely. I'm too stiff when I play but when I'm tired and lazy, I'll get better. Mirror's Edge is a great example of this... :lol
