Before the brouhaha at Tecmo, game designer Tomonobu Itagaki made a name for himself making fighting games. He's currently working on another title, which he hinted at last year.

Does that mean we'll see another fighting game from him? "Because I made the best fighting game in the world, Dead or Alive, at my former employer," Itagaki told Japanese game magazine Famitsu, "it's futile to do battle with my own daughter." Like most creators who view their work as their children, Itagaki clearly views the series as his daughter, and it sounds like he is apparently ready to move on.

"Fighting games today are at an impasse," Itagaki added. According to him, the fighting game, DOA withstanding, generation ended a long time ago.

Itagaki also revealed that his new title is being developed on new game engine that has been built by assembling world class tech.

Thanks Itagaki, your stubborn ways will always be forgotten, and curse you for spitting in the face of your daughter to not make a DOA5..

It's not like he could make DoA5 Team Ninja and Tecmo own the intellectual property rights. Though, the fighting game generation is far from dead. Tekken 6, BlazBlue, and Street Fighter IV are all juggernauts and have successfully made it to newer audiences.

correct... and thanks to TVC and Blazblue also going portable that audience is going to expand even further

Meh, DoA is alright but no where nearly as good as he thinks. That guy is such a jerk >:T

Personally I would take a new DoA over any other fighter.

I still think TvC came out on the wrong console. No hate on the Wii but, TvC just isn't the right type of game for a Wii exclusive.

Would you settle for another DoA 2 port/remake? :B

Yeah, well to each their own. I liked playing the Xbox ones and Ninja Gaiden for awhile but then i just lost interest in them. That and Itagaki's douchebaggery made me expect more from his games xD

I would actually love an updated DoAU2 for PS3/360. My favorite fighter of all time. Was one of the top Lei Fang players back in the day on Xbox Live. DoA4 was a bit of let down for me. Plus if they do an Update that would be a chance to play with some of the coolest people. The community for DoAU2 was AMAZING. Though it was kinda split in two and I was in the middle of it all. Sorry for the rantlike post. I just got a flood of memories, so good.

well the Wii was in the need of a 2D fighter other than guilty gear.

But to make in exclusive is just dumb. If I was Capcom I would have released it on all platforms. This is why the Street Fighter IV community has seen a serious growth in the past 15 months. It would also help if gaming leagues would pick up more fighters. MLG is thinking of picking up Tekken 6 for the upcoming season but, it kinda doesn't make sense, on the business end of things.

Haha, I admit I'd probably buy a DoA2U remake as well. Especially since I would be able to play online now. Playing DoA against the cpu. Pretty sure there were times when the cpu beat me by only countering during the match. I always felt like the cpu was getting my button presses before my character was. :P
