Eidos and developer Backbone are bringing Gauntlet's food-shooting, poison-eating, death-avoiding action to the Nintendo DS later this year. Eidos describes the upcoming title as a "modern reworking" of the arcade classic, thankfully returning the series to its overhead roots rather than the forgettable 3D entries of recent years.

Gauntlet for the DS will once again reunite the series' iconic Elf, Warrior, Wizard, and Valkyrie, and include 40 maps across three different areas. What's more, as Gauntlet has always been been strongest when played in groups, this latest version will boast ranked 4-player co-op and competitive multiplayer modes, playable both wirelessly and over Nintendo's Wi-Fi Connection. Just remember, shots do NOT hurt other players ... yet.

The game will have VoIP (voice over IP) support, allow players to chat on microphone while playing.

Oh man, I'll definitely get this. But, I did enjoy the 3D games on the N64 and PS2.

I didn't think so. Sorry if I've offended anyone there, but who wouldn't be PO'd at something like this? I was really, really looking forward to this.

I already had three friends who'd be willing to buy copies of the game and have a dedicated campaign together. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF---

that would be really cool... IE we could have 4 player Game Addicts co-op sessions :D

I played this at a DS Download Station awhile ago. Sadly, it wasn't very good. In my opinion, the camera was awful, the graphics looked like puke (yes it's a DS, but they could've gone with sprites and made it look a ton better... but they didn't), and the controls made me want to cry.

And I was looking forward to it, too.

O I've had that for a long time, beat it twice :D you can borrow it if u can't find one.
