Segatron Genesis... call me the wizard.
I'm BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCCCK IN THE SADDLE AGAIN!
As it proclaims so pumped and ready at the animated introduction to GUITAR HERO AEROSMITH. The lastest installment in the popular Guitar Hero Series is here to rock the world again!
I purchased the bundle package, due to the fact, it comes with 2 sweet goodies, besides the game itself:
1. The sleak Les Paul with a custom AEROSMITH face plate.
2. The Aerosmith Tour Book, with pictures, quotes, and landmarks of Aerosmith's history that's with the bundle ONLY. Short & Sweet little book by far!
Yet before I begin, you have to ask yourself the biggest question. DO YOU LIKE AEROSMITH? That is the key element of purchasing this title. Sure it's Guitar Hero, but you have to know that this is a game dedicated to ONE band. For this game has a great MASS (Understatement by far) of AEROSMITH
It's odd, nobody really saw this game coming, we didn't even want it if I remember correctly from when it was first announced in our forum. Yet it happened and the results? IT ROCKS!
The soundtrack has basically every hit single from Aerosmith's career. (Except "I don't want to miss a thing"" and "Dude Looks Like a Lady" were the only two songs missing sadly.)
Graphics & Visuals: A major difference you will notice, is the characters in the game are 10 times more lively than the basic Guitar Hero band you will normally see (Which will look like Chuckee Cheese robots compared to what they did with Aerosmith's crew). Steven Tyler will occassionally grabs the camera and sings RIGHT AT YOU. The drummer, lead, and bass are very motivational as well and you will see Joe Perry and Steven Tyler sing at the mic. The Cameo with the founder of RUN D.M.C. was pretty hip as well. I just wish I could have seen Jay Masta Jay, but I can respect their decision for him not being present in the game itself. RIP Jay Masta Jay
GamePlay: This game focuses more on pull-offs and hammer-ons more than any other Guitar Hero I have noticed, especially on HARD MODE which I found to be very unusual. Unless you have played Expert mode on every Guitar Hero game, then it's no real surprise. I was able to finish Hard Mode last night and I have to say is just be prepared.
In Career Mode, you are forced to play the opening acts before Aerosmith appears. Since you have to know, you are re-inacting the events that happened on each of those nights in their history. So don't jump into the game thinking you are going to be Aerosmith from the get-go.
Characters: Our favorite Guitar Hero 3 characters return to the scene to help play these opening act songs.
Judy Nails, Xavier Stone, Axel Steel, Johnny Napalm, Midori, Lars Umlaut, Casey Lynch and Izzy Sparks.
There are 4 new hidden characters this time around. Sadly the Grim Reaper, God of Rock, and Lou are missing.
However in the Wii and PS2 edition, Elroy Budvis and Metalhead return! Nice little bonus for those owners of the Wii or PS2.
Online battles, face-off, co-op, and pro-face-off are still in tact for Wii, 360, and PS3 owners.
Soundtrack: Odd little mixture of opening acts. These choices were made by Aerosmith, since these are the bands that they were inspired from or they personally like. Ranging from bands with their single hits, such as Stone Temple Pilots, The Black Crowes, Lenny Kratiz, Run-D.M.C., The Kinks, Cheap Trick, New York Dolls, Ted Nugent, The Cult, and a few more. 31 songs in career mode, 10 unlockable songs in the store, and 1 special hidden song (Which is unlocked when you finish Career Mode). Giving you a total of 42 songs all together.
It doesn't have as many songs as a normal Guitar Hero, more so it's like the side-game, Guitar Hero Rock The 80's for PS2 in terms of song selection.
Overall: If you're a fan of Aerosmith, then by all means, YOU will LOVE this game! The price however, is questionable. Since I feel some of the times, the song selection should have been $39.99 and not $49.99 (or $59.99 for 360/PS3) fans. HOWEVER, if you cannot stand Aerosmith, get as far away as possible from this game. Everyone I've spoken with, either hates them or loves them. So it's a 50-50 shot by far.
Yet as a tribute to one of the greatest American Rock Bands to ever come out of Massachusetts, all I have to say is Rock N' Roll man...ROCK NNNNNNNN ROLLLLLLLLLLLL!!
SO SIT DOWN! SHUT UP! TUNE IN! AND CRANK IT UP! It's AEROSMITH IN YOUR FACE!
