Is the 80GB PS3 worse?

My friend that has a 60 GB PS3 told me not to buy the new 80GB. He says that Sony has made the PS3 more cost efficient at the sacrifice of a little performance. Is this true? Circuitcity is running the 80 GB w/Motorstorm for $499.

I doubt it. It's the PS3, it doesn't really have performance issues.

I don't think there are performance issues, but you may encounter problems if you are looking for full backwards compatibility. To save money, they decided to use software emulation on the PS3 instead of building it into the hardware, and because of that, not all PS2 and PS1 games will work on the PS3.

Your friend is the devil.

The 80GB model is quite lovely and does everything the 60GB does. I'm the proud owner of an 80GB model and she does nothing but purr like a champion.

I would like to add, that, the emulator built in, does get occasional update patches to fix many errors for those certain PS2 and PS1 games over time. So in the near future, most of the games having problems now, will work properly.

that would mean that there could be 60GB exclusive games, which isnt true.
Nooo, think he meant performance like frame rate and lag.

oh

well that could make some games potentially very laggy for the one ps3, so it would ruin the experience for all who play with those people

no they're not. framerate issues stem from the console trying to render a lot of effects on the screen at one time, and results in chugging

But to some extent isn't that still on the game? A good developer will know what their limitations are on any given system and try not to overload it with too much going on at once.

She's right.

well, yeah. but think about it, if you play a game with a terrible framerate on an xbox, it will run smooth as butter on a 360. its hardware limitations that cause it, so you could go either way, really.

Not really, the 360 has to slow down it's CPU speed in order to play that Xbox 1 game via the emulator it uses.
