Concerned about rising rates of both in a graying nation, Japanese lawmakers last year set a maximum waistline size for anyone age 40 and older: 85 centimeters (33.5 inches) for men and 90 centimeters (35.4 inches) for women.

Insane...and honestly? Brutal

Hmmm tough. On one hand, you should be able to live how you want, but on the flip side, obesity is a real problem and uses up a lot of resources and money.

In theory, its a problem. In practice, its practical.

I don't think this law is unreasonable, but it does open a gateway to other, scarier, possibilities. If the gov't can tell you how big your waistline can be, they can tell you how to do a whole lot of other things that might not be so reasonable/practical.

Until then though, I don't have a problem with it.
