Just picked up Psi-Ops

This game looked pretty cool in previews, and the price recently dropped from $50 to $30, so I decided to take a chance on it. I'll let you guys know how it is once I get a chance to play it. :)

It doesn't support system link, online play, or co-op. There's just a lot of different ways you can go into every situation, so the replay value would be in playing through a second time and doing everything different.

I think action is the genre it would be in.

As for multiplayer, I play most games single-player anyway, so that's not a huge factor. But if it did have co-op unlockable, that would be nice.

Here is what it says

Unlockable Play Feature To Unlock Code Special Notes
Cooperative Play Mode- ?(Unlocked by default?) 07041979 None

Well, sorry I wasn't more specific but I want to know like what the game is about, gameplay wise? Basically, if you can, give us like a mini review. Or at least what you think of the game so far, I'm nitpicking I know ::)

Basically, you're a guy with psychic powers. Not the "I can read your mind" kind of psychic, but able to use telekinesis, mind drain, pyrokinesis, mind control, and out of body experiences kind of psychic.

This leads to a variety of ways to approach enemies:
1) use telekinesis to pick them up and throw them into stuff
2) use telekinesis to pick up stuff and hit enemies with it
3) control one of the enemies, have him kill all the other enemies, and then finish him last
4) use your pyrokinesis to set drums of oil on fire and then use telekinesis to move that burning drum of oil into your enemies' path

And many more.

It's pretty cool so far.

The review that it got on Xplay was pretty good. Not many games stand out to me that I see on there, Psi-Ops did though. Also, Cold (one of my favorite bands) did some tracks for the game as well. I'm going to have to try playin' it some time.

Psi-Ops rocks.. I've been playing it tonight.

Any game that gives you the option of hitting, kicking, shooting, dropping a crate on, blowing up, head-popping, hurling off a cliff, mind-controlling etc... your enemies is awesome.

I'm getting in the habit of relying on using telekinesis to pick a Movement soldier up and slam him into a wall once, then run up and use mind-drain to sap his strength. Usually, mind drain only works if you sneak up on someone. But, it seems that if you time it right, you can knock a soldier dizzy just long enough to mind-drain him to the point where you fill half of your psi power and still get to burst his head.

The graphics could be better. The guns are rather weak, but that leaves more emphesis on using the psionic powers on foes, which is the fun part of the game.

I have the PS2 version, so I hope it's a bit different from the x-box version. But anyway, the story is something like the governments around the world focusing on mental powers. They stop this, some people from all over the world start up in secret on their own and turn bad. Only a few good people with mental powers remain, and guess what? You're one of them. This sends you on a solo-mission to save the world or something. It might sound great, but it's really not.

As for co-op, this is indeed an option on the PS2. Or so they say, but I really can't tell what they were thinking when they made it. Even though there are two players, there is only one person on the screen. That's right. And how would that work? Well, one of you makes him walk and aim. The other one shoots and uses the psi-powers. I know what you are thinking: "Huh? Are you kidding?" Sadly, I'm not. It's the worst idea I've heard since someone said "George W. Bush for president!", and it proves how great the rest of the game is. :woot

I would rather recommend Second Sight. It is also about some guy with mental powers, but it's much better. It can be very hard in the beginning, but after a few levels it will be much easier. The story are far better, the characters better, the powers more interesting and so on. The problem is the cut-scenes look like something the cat dragged in, but it's worth it.

I do have to say that between the telekinetic tossing people off buildings, possessing them to make them kill themselves and of course, the head-popping, the game does have fun to offer. :P

I didn't try the co-op as I believe that it's unlocked after beating the game in single-player mode, but it does sound rather lame.

If it's pure violence you want, go get Manhunt or the Punisher. If you want a good game, get anything else. ;)
