loading screens....

im drawing a blank...
The last issue of game informer had a top 10 list of the best loading screens of all time, so I was just wondering- what do you like/dislike about loading screens, apart from the obvious. What makes them bearable and, dare I say, enjoyable. For me, I like when they give useful hints about the game, but I hate when they cycle through the same 3 hints.

I agree with the OP. It's cool to see some hints, but I also like how the Total War series will post historical quotes along with the hints.

I like loading screens that either give a small history of something, or gameplay hints. Skyrim was pretty cool about that, although I did tend to see a lot of the same things repeated.

Really I just like them to have something for me to read while I'm waiting. I think blank loading screens are the worst to sit through because they are boring.

I know it's not quite a load screen, but I think it was The Sims 3 that had a little quiz game that you could play while the game was installing. That was fun!

Yeah I think there was actually a game where they included a mini-game in the loading screen? But I can't remember what it was.

Are you refering to ridge racer on ps1? you played galaga or galaxian at the initial loading screen and if you got a perfect on it you unlocked the bonus cars.

I'm quite fond of watching a monkey juggle balls while the game is loading...... (bonus points galore to anyone who knows wtf I'm talking about)

the loading screen for lollipop chainsaw is the worst. just dancing lollipops. one of the major downsides in that game is the way too frequent load screens. it seems like they would have been more enjoyable, seeing as how there were so many.

and another thing that grinds my gears about a game is when it has to load upon entering a doorway. I like when its already loaded on the other side of the door.

The Half-Life games man. Every 5th door you open to advance the game is a loading screen. At least they are not over 5 seconds really.

Remember the very first Resident Evil? worlds worst for loading every time you walk through a door
