Mario Party 8 recalled in the UK!!

I was thumbing through my Game Informer while my kids were watching the single dumbest kid show on the planet, and I came accross an article that says Mario Party 8 has been recalled in the UK because it uses the word "spastic" in the game. Apparently it's an offensive term to discribe someone with a physical or mental disability.

And who says English is all the same everywhere!?!

freedom of speech? no my friend, no.
They probably just recalled it so it could be re-rated (or edited) for U.K release. I mean, that's not something you would find in an E (or whatever rating Europe uses) rated game. I have to wonder who wanted it recalled though, Nintendo, or the European ratings thingy.

Do you have a link or something Dart?

I'm proud to be from the UK then, because the Mario Party series stopped being fun after Mario Party 67: the "We're desperate for your money :(" edition. Would it kill to have some original games?

Oh, and "spastic" hasn't been used as an insult for yearssss. But hey, let's make a big fuss about it because we fail at life.

The post wasn't intended to poke fun at the UK by any means. I just thought it was odd to recall a game that uses a specific word, no matter how archaic it may be. I guess I could see a publisher's case in recalling a game if words that were a bit more modern and equally offensive...

No offence taken, I just find it funny that games can display as much violence, sex and language as they please, but use an ancient word that's another word for mentally handicapped people, and the game must be STRIKEN FROM THE SHELVES OMG.

But I'm not losing any sleep over this because I generally can't stand the Mario Party sequels. Ugh, horrible.

Some of my coworkers say that Mario Party 8 is a good game. But then again for the most part they are new to the world of gaming. I personally have Mario Party for my N64, and although I don't hate it, I can't find a reason to play it.

Mario Party 8 sucks because how random it is. You could be winning the entire length of the game and then at the end still lose because there was some random prize that made someone else end up with more stars than you.

The earlier Mario Parties had some issues like that, but were more skill based. But personally I thought the best Mario Party games were on the N64.

:lol

There was a great Penny Arcade joke about that. I can't link it here, because the comic was riddled with swears, but it was awesome, largely in part to the amount of swears it used. The one character was just complaining that he was winning the whole game, but at the end it rained, and he didn't have the special rain boots item, so all his coins turned into nega-coins and his stars were dispersed among the other players. Great stuff.
