Mega Mini-Review: Resident Evil Archives: Resident Evil

MegaDrive20XX

Segatron Genesis... call me the wizard.
Another re-release in the Wii library to cash-in on the Resident Evil money tree it seems. This is basically the GameCube edition with new controls and the entire game is on ONE disc now. I was a bit heartbroken that no new features or fun mini-games were even added to this game. It's a direct port.

Graphics:
Pros: Cleaner now compared to it's GameCube brother and finally supported in 480p. I could see details on artwork found around the Spencer Mansion whenever I saw a painting.
Cons: This game does not support wide screen mode, so I had to convert my Wii to "standard" screen mode. This baffles me since if you play the original GameCube game on your Wii it stretches out for you automatically. The game is starting to look dated now since it's 2002 release.

Sound:
Pros: The music and sound effects are sharper and more vibrate compared to the GameCube original. I could hear the zombies groan from a distance, gun fire, and the beloved eerie music.
Cons: I actually wanted to see if Capcom decided to remix the BGM like they have done before with the PS1 edition of Resident Evil Greatest Hits edition, but sadly no.

Controls: Pros: You can use the Wii Remote & Nunchuk, Classic Controller, or the original GameCube controller. Hurrah for variety!

Cons: The Wii Remote & Nunchuk control setup was downright lazy. No waggle, no shaking of the remote to even reload your gun like in RE4. Instead it's bland and like having a senseless controller in your hand. Yet, in the 3rd and 4th choice of the control setup options, you can use your remote to prepare Chris or Jill into an aim when you tilt the remote, but it takes a while adjust. I found myself using the GameCube controller since that's the only thing I'm used to. Plus, if I'm running like crazy from a Crimson-head zombie, I don't want to be waggling like a goober in the face of death.

Overall: Worth it? For $30, no.Wait for a price drop, this game is definitely a $20 game at most. If you missed out on the original GameCube remake, for the love of God, pick this up! Otherwise, just pass. I just wish that Nintendo would get out of the dark ages and make their games support wide screen. It's a bit lame when your game is in a letter box.

Nice review but, wasn't the REremake for Gamecube already in 480p seeing as that's standard definition and the Gamecube could obviously do that.

Sadly no, the original GameCube game doesn't even offer to put it in progressive scan and it's still in 480i
