My Personal PS2 Ressurrection....

I'm Not So Bad, Once You Get To Know Me.
So there's this shop in my area that has a lot of retro systems, and they also do repairs and whatnot. I decided on Saturday to go ahead and bring in my original PS2. The PS2 I have now I bought a little over a year ago. My original one burned out, first not wanting to play blue discs and then not wanting to play any. Even though I bought the new one I never parted with the old one. I had given the system to my lil bro, when it could still play DVD games, but he gave it back to me so I put it in storage. That first PS2 and me put in a lot of hours on such great games as MGS2, GTA3, Gran Turismo 3, and FFX. I don't know why I felt an attachment to it so I brought it in to the shop in hopes that they can ressurrect it. Do you all think that makes me nuts? :D
 
Of course it won't. It's $35, plus parts. For instance if it needs a new lens it'll be $40 more. Still only $75 overall, well under the price of a new or used one. It's a sentimental thing. :D
 
Well I went to pick it up this morning and it turns out my PS2 was fine and dandy. It just needed a good and thorough cleaning and she's up and running as good as new. Didn't even need a new lens or anything. She's workin' real good now. :D I am superhappy. 8)

From what I can see these guys take the shell off and do a very thorough job of cleaning it. Bottom line is the lens is fine. I expected the lens to be burned out. All I hear all the time is how the lens is crappy and conks out all the time, well I've got an original PS2 with the original lens that's been put through many, many, many hours of use and she's still lives, she was just a tad dirty, but now she's as good as new.. :D
 
The only logical way I can see for the lense failing is (at least the thin PS2) when you insetr the game, and have to snap it in, it has the possibility of making contact with the lens. I freak out when someone else inserts a game into my PS2 because of this...

Or I could be completely wrong on this...
 
Well I don't have a slim one and chances are I won't be getting one anytime soon. All 3 of my PS2's are original heavy crack someone upside the head designs. :lol I've heard a few bad things here and there about the slim ps2's and while I don't generally just take others word for it, as long as my systems are working there's no need for new ones. :D
