Need serious help with the last mission in Mercenaries! (The ace of spades)

Before you say anything, yes I have read the FAQ's, walkthroughs and all that. They just don't help, that's all. So far every FAQ I've read say I should take it slow up to the prison and let the other tanks' help me. Well, I ignored that and drove as fast as I can. And guess what? Eight out of ten times, the tank have 50% hitpoints left as average. This is more than enough to clear out the prison area, and the tank have been repairs when I leave anyway so it doesn't matter.

The problem is: What now? I've tried many tactics, yet have failed every time. At most I spent -six- hours straight with the same mission, and 90% of that time was from the prison and beyond. (as in I start normally, drive directly up to the prison and go from there). What is your best strategy to do this? I can make it up to the parked helicopters (and even steal them), but that's about it.
 
Sorry if no one really helped you out on your problem, I guess no one has the game. I would of helped if I had the game though. Im sure you passed it now though?
 
More or less. I still can't finish that last mission, so I restarted the game again. Basically take Gran Theft Auto, put it in Korea and blow it up. That's Mercenaries in all it's glory. (although, how much glory can you find in a war?) 8) The problem is it's the greatest game of all time, and no one have heard about it. And I'm not just saying that. It was rated "Game of the Year" in January by several official magazines and all that. In January.

Guess I'll never be able to finish it. :'(

Naw dont say that, cause you'll figure it out and finish the game, watch when you figure it out it'll be something simple. Happens to me all the time.
 
I guess so. Thanks. The problem is the guy has an army protecting him, literally. Short version is you need to get to a prison (part 1) and finally to the main base. You start in a tank, so it should be fairly easy to reach the prison. And so it is, if you are lucky. There's a few choppers coming after you, but if you can dodge them and blow up all the tanks in your path it's not that hard.

Part 2 on the other hand are far worse. There are tanks everywhere plus soldiers with anti-tank rocket launchers everywhere, not to mention big combat choppers and everything. If you somehow get around that, there's a broken bridge. The only way I've learned to cross it is by a) getting into a jeep and jump, or b) steal a chopper and fly across it. The problem is the jeep break no matter what, and there are dozens of anti-air units out to get you if you try to fly. It's just annoyingly hard. And if, and just if, you somehow manage to get all the way up to the base you will find the real trouble. Short version is the base is riddicules heavily defended and you only have six minutes to cross it. And crossing it can only be done by blowing up several gates with C4, so I really can't see how it is possible. And even if you somehow managed to get past all this, you need to stand still (?) and wait inpatiently to download some codes, and finally we get to the last boss. Where you are on foot, and he has dozens of soldiers protecting him and a combat chopper.

See the problem? To make it even better, I only beat the last Ace by running (literally) through the entire facility, taking him out from as far back as I could while still running and verifying his body. I've done it twice, and the last time I had about 10% health left. That's three times the health I had the first time. Oh, and you're on a timer here as well, so you can't use stealth and sneak your way through. I hate those missions. :hh
