How many of you have problems connecting with battle.net?

I do know that Mastermario, Grinder, and I were having troubles connecting.
For awhile... I couldn't see MM typing.. the lag was bad...etc. At 1st we thought it was MM's connection (when spartan, MM, and I played).
Then when grinder/mm/and I played.... we thought it was my connection, but I put a computer outside my firewalls..... and we still had problems.

No one could connect to my games... but I could connect to someone else pretty much lag free.
Samething with Grinder and Ian.... we could all connect 2 player no problem...

I also noticed this:

Battle.net: Latency too high message
The Windows 2000\ME\XP Winsock will at times return an error relating to certain function calls. When this occurs, StarCraft and Warcraft Battle.net Edition will no longer accept UDP packets through port 6112. This is why you are receiving an error message that states “latency too high”.

When this happens you will not be able to join Battle.net games, and will become disconnected from any game in progress (this issue normally occurs before getting into a game). Older versions of the Windows Winsock do not appear to return this particular error. Keep in mind that StarCraft was not originally designed to work with Windows 2000\ME\XP.

Thank you for your patience in this matter,

well, a few things we should try.......first.......dads laptop here

second, two different matches of three, one with grinder, me, and spartan, and the second with grinder, spartan, and bv, and see if either of those choices work

yeah.... you 3 with Grinder should try that!

I am also going to be reinstalling Win 98 on my old laptop. I am going to try to see if that makes a difference as well.

That will DEFINITELY show us.

IE Grinder is on Win98.... he had no problems. The problems existed with us... and honestly... I think it has to do with the 2000/xp/me issues.

I had a problem connecting with Warcraft III last night. I had downloaded the beta awhile back and now the beta is obselete. So, I deleted my installation and reinstalled to version 1.16 and everything is fine now.

By the way, how much would it cost me to get Warcraft II and Starcraft and play those online?

stacraft costs (i think) 20 bucks for the battle chest, which is starcraft, the expansion (a must-have IMO) and a couple strategy guides

dont know about warcraft tho

exactly.

War 3... its still up there in price.

The only games that are said to have the WinXp problems (such as what we are facing with the slowdown) is Warcraft 2 Bnet and Starcraft.
I think Diablo might be one too, but I forget at this time.

Diablo 2, War 3..etc... do not have this problem with XP because they were made differently.... and do not have problems with the Win XP winsock driver/file/component... whatever.

man.... I wish SC worked great.

You see ... Grinder is on Win98... that is why he wasn't having problems... but we are (directed at MM).
SO... I am going to set up my old laptop with Win 98 and see if that fixes the problem.

Win ME/2000/XP use the same (or relatively the same) Winsock I BELIEVE... so those 3 versions of Windows will not work well with Starcraft online on Bnet.

Well, if it looks good and all, there will be hype.

But Starcraft Ghost is probablly going to suck bad. It looks like it has some potential, but it isn't what people want.

From what I have seen of Starcraft Ghost, I was not very impressed. I just do not want to buy a malfunctioning game and there are a few games that I cannot get to run correctly on Win XP. The Sims is one of them.

O.k., two things. I was not impressed with Starcraft Ghost AND I hope that Starcraft will not malfunction on Win XP.

Starcraft: Ghost looks good IF you like games like Metal Gear and such. I'm not as big on stealth games myself though.

BV, ever get your b.net issues fixed?
