PS3 getting downloadable PS2 AND Dreamcast games!?

Well, this is interesting. A recently revealed internal document on SEGA’s FTP apparently outlines Sony’s upcoming plans for an “PS2 emulator on PS3.” According to the document, which contained notes from a meeting between SCEA and SEGA in early August, “SCEA wants to sell all PS2 titles on PSN,” and that Sony is considering “a special Japanese Import section (pricing $9.99 to $39.99 for full game)” for its online marketplace.

Additionally, SEGA also apparently intends to sell classic Dreamcast games via the new portal, with some being exclusive to PSN and others planned for a multi-platform release via PSN and Xbox Live.

Of course, all of this despite the fact that Sony has continually and officially stated that backwards compatibility will not be coming back to the PS3. Which is why digital downloading of old titles instead of playing from disc makes complete sense. Unfortunately, that’s all we know at the moment, but we’ll certainly keep you posted as we learn more.

Exclusive Dreamcast games on PSN? Shenmue 1 and 2 anyone??

Now THAT would make sense as to why they would nix backwards compatability. Why give someone a system to play games they've already bought when you can convince them to buy that great old game again?

If the PS3 did this, that would mean downloadable Playstation and PS2 content along with already being able to play hardcopy Playstation (one) games...

Yeah, this is a game market killer move...

"Flawless Victory!"

I knew it. Sony was rumored to do this last year, but denied it. This proves that they are jealous of GameStop and EB Games stealing profit.

Doesn't that mean Sega also is? Though the used game market for Dreamcast is almost non-existent, if it isn't.

Well a lfew years ago, before Ken left Sony. He claimed that the PS3 would have the ability to download Saturn games, since the Wii could download TurboGrafx 16 games as his rebuttal. Dreamcast is a gold mine right now, so I say let them! Heck, if XBLA received Virtual On DC and Rez, it's a playground for these companies.

This also makes that whole rumored patent on Emotion Engine emulation thing make sense as well. Following the money trail definitely adds up this time.
