Social Gaming

I have been given permission to post a link to my online questionnaire on here.
I am a female gamer and am researching positive gaming experiences and effects. Specifically, I am looking at social gaming experiences and how these link to mood after gameplay.

Because I want to "hear the voices of gamers" for my research, I am recruiting keen gamers (of 18 years and older) to complete my questionnaire. If you are interested in helping me, please select the weblink below.

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments about my research. I appreciate your help with this. Thank-you.
Kind regards,
Yasdnil

I will be closing the questionnaire soon, so if any of you still wish to take part, I would really appreciate it. Thank-you to those of you who have already completed it for me; you're brill!
Thank-you.

I abhor the notion of psychology in general, and the "quantification" of feelings in general. 1-5 scales are not an accurate representation of my thoughts and feelings, nor are decontextualized questions pertaining to my thoughts about my experiences very useful in any meaningful way.

Nevertheless, I was bored, and filled it out. I hope it helps. :D

And please, when drawing conclusions please understand that a single question can be interpreted in many ways. For instance, the question about how I felt after playing a game that was followed by a list of emotions is utterly meaningless. Did I feel "interested" after playing a game? "Interested" in what exactly? Without knowing the object of that sentence "Did you feel interested in _____" the question is impossible to answer. I hope my answer of "not at all" does not lead you to believe I'm disinterested in life after playing a videogame, because that's certainly not the intent of my response.

I do wish that the question "5. Please indicate on what type of game console you prefer to play (select one only)" could have multiple choices.

I play games on multiple consoles and on PC.

The section rated from Very Slightly to Extremely should have also included a "Not at All" selection. For example, after gaming, I don't feel "very slightly" hostile. I would say that I don't feel hostile at all.

Those being the exceptions, I think I see the point of the questions in relation to your research. Good luck on finishing the project!

Thanks for completing my questionnaire and for your comments.
I am aware of the limitations of quantitative methods and so as part of my research, I have also been doing lots of focus groups where I can just talk to gamers about their experiences etc, which have been really great. The findings I have got from those are really the focus of my research, and this study (which is advertised here) is to supplement those findings.

I understand your point about some of the questions being a bit meaningless. This questionnaire is an established measure of mood though, and it would take a lot of messing about to make sure it was still reliable if I took some of the mood items out!

I originally had question 5 as multiple choice but decided to change it to preference for one only. This is mainly because I can get a better idea what general preferences are rather than having most people selecting almost all the boxes (as this has happened in the past with grouops of experienced gamers).

Your point about the "Not at all" option is a useful one. I will add it in. The questionnaire I used for this part is an established measure of mood and so I did not really think to change it. I can make this slight additoin though.
Thanks again

Great idea, social gaming is the future of the industry!

Yes that was my thinking behind my research. Also not much academic research has been done to look at the experiences and effects of social contexts. Seems weird since social gaming is so popular.....

Anyone else want to help me with my research? I will be closing the questionnaire shortly, so if you are still interested, then I would really appreciate your help!

Thank-you to those of you who have already completed it. :D
