Square Enix' catalog of games are headed to Steam this year, the Japanese publisher announced today. Starting with the PC release of The Last Remnant on April 9, Square Enix plans to offer additional titles on Valve's digital distribution network as the year progresses.

President and CEO of Square Enix John Yamamoto describes the Steam partnership as part of the company's continuing efforts to broaden their audience outside of Japan. "Square Enix is committed to delivering the best quality titles to PC gamers and distribution on Steam is one of the many steps we are taking to increase accessibility for fans in North America and PAL territories," stated the executive.

What's in store for Square Enix fans on Steam further down the line? No official announcements have been made as of yet, but it wouldn't be terribly shocking to see the PC versions of Final Fantasy VII and VIII brought over to Valve's one-stop online shop, along with the MMORPG Final Fantasy XI and its numerous expansions.
