Tekken 5

Anyone actually get to play this gem at the arcades yet? Wow, game is amazing. They did the card system well. You put a fiver in, spits out a card, then you pick a character and you get gold from each match you play, more gold if you play people with better records and can add weird things to your character. Kaz i know can get devil wings, devil tail and the third eye among other things.
you're stuff is also ghosted on the machine and when the cpu uses that character will fight as you. supposedly upgraded from SC2 conquest copying. when you take your card back you get gold if your character has done well. No new characters have been unlocked, but right now i've got King going. his new linker is beyond damaging. like 80%. just need to watch for people learning the break so i can switch up. I'm waiting for bruce and Kuma to be unlocked :-/
game is much better compared to 4. good stages too

I saw this on tv. You can use a memory card and just save your game in the arcade and go back another time to play. Plus it looked cool with the different costumes and stuff. Shame we'll probably never get something like that in the UK. :p

Does it still play like all the other Tekkens? In other words lame preset dial-a-combos, or have they finally changed it around.

Memory cards in the arcade...hmmm Neo-Geo was doing that about 15 years ago. Nothing new there.

preset dial a combos? if you think those are what makes the game, you haven't quite played them enough. it's kinda like a cross between tekken 3 and 4.
still my favorite franchise of fighters.
came out on the 20th or so i think in the US.
i'm assuming from your talk with those, you're either a capcom or neogeo fighter person if anything.
and those games are just as much cheese w/o your dial-a-combo. i've seen really good garou, cvs2, and sf3 players, and wow.
besides, any preset combo is usually not that great if it's over three hits. a person is an idiot if they think ten strings are good unless the person is backwards and facing a wall or something..

I'm not a Tekken fan...nope. Nor Soul Caliber, nor DOA, nor Virtual Fighter, ect. And yes I'm a Neo-Geo fan...kinda Capcom...not really. I like classic capcom fighters..but I do not care for the craziness of the VS series that they do..with the newfangled gameplay, and jumping ten stories up in the air..do one super move and its 99 hits or some craziness like that hehe.

But I've played all the Tekkens and other 3D fighters as they come out, I'll play any fighting game really, just for kicks, I'm just not a fan of the style of button mashing game play that Tekken and others use. I have seen 8 year old kids beat Tekken titles without knowing a single move..simply by pressing buttons...that doesn't happen with a game like Garou, or SvC, or RBFFS, ect. Thats the main problem I have with the 3D fighters...too simple and too easy.

Of course I could just be getting old....but I like a challenge over easy preset combos. Just my opinion though ultimatly ;)

beating the computer AI in tekken isn't saying much, it's people that matter. playing fighters themselves is pointless if you're playing the AI purely.
tekken is not easy either when you actually go to top level play. and talking about mvc2 like that, you really don't know what you're talking about. i've seen top level play from about every fighting game from tournaments like EVO. saying you don't care for them is one thing, but by saying you can with by mashing buttons isn't quite hitting the area at all.
and one super isn't getting you 99, you can watch some characters put you in an infinite until you're dead, but that stuff is beyond my skill. i'm only a mid-level tier on mvc2. you should play some sf3. watched the winner of the last tournament parry 13 consec hits while landing from a jump that before the person had time to block did a 3 hit combo to a super.
besides, generally most of the preset combos are worthless and you won't see them used ever in high level play. most meaning a lot

I finally got to play Tekken 5. It's really pretty! :D

I'm not a big Tekken fan though. It feels too slow compared to Street Fighter or Soul Calibur. But I'm probably just not using the right character. Are there any Tekken characters similar to Chun Li or Cassandra?

My gf likes Tekken though and she did pretty well playing with King. She won like 3 rounds and ended up 11th on the scoreboard. :)

and techniqually it's not on ps2 yet :-/
similar in what way?
and what does 11 on the scoreboard mean?

I'm looking for a Tekken character that has the speed and agility of someone like Chun Li or Cassandra (Soul Calibur II). You know what I mean? I tried using Raven and he has some cool movesets, but it feels like it takes forever for him to execute them.

You know at the arcades when someone gets a high score and they get to put their initials in? That's what it was. They are reset every day so getting 11th on a certain day isn't some huge uber accomplishment, but it was still cool.

people usually exploit those with simple stupidities of the computer anyway. like launcher, jab, jab, unblockable

you want a fast character, go with steve. so far, he's the best in the game from what i hear. nina is supposed to be a jabby person too if you want a female from the looks.

I tried Nina, too, actually. But even she feels a bit slow, and I noticed she's more of a puncher than a kicker. I like kicking moves better.

Nina CAN be really fast (at least talking tekken 3, tag and 4). She also has some sick grappling moves though they're extremely difficult to execute.

she does kick, she has a few small low hitting kick strings.
i'd stick with king if you want to grapple at all, her's are pretty easy to break since choice on which to do isn't many.
tekken 4 she could get easy spacing with her 1+4 then mix up something, but ttt she was a mid tier at best methinks in my opinion
