Takara Tomy announced in this week's issue of Famitsu magazine that a new game bearing the Toshinden name is in the works. The title, still at an early stage of development, is coming to the Wii at an unspecified time.
Although the new Toshinden shares no story elements with the original series (released across four installments on the PlayStation in the 1990s), the basic idea -- 3D weapon-based one-on-one fighting -- is the same. Each character has his own unique set of moves, with most of the basic skills usable with the press of a single button, and you'll have the ability to cobble unique combos together from smaller ones to wow your audience with.
The new Toshinden's still young, but hopefully it'll do more to sell itself than the original series, which quickly flickered out of gamers' minds as Tekken and Virtua Fighter dominated the market. We'll see.
