Sega Genesis Trying to remember the name

I remember playing a game with my cousin that he had but it was over 10 years ago I really can't remember the name.  The closest game I could relate it to would be Darkstalkers in the fact that is game had kinda classic monsters in a 1 on 1 match up.  It was a 2d fighting game that had a characters two of them that I can remember were a dragon and a man eating plant that had special moves like breathing fire and spitting stuff.

I think it was only for genisis if that helps any.
 
Sounds like "Red Earth" by Capcom. Which was an arcade game only, that was never ported. However those few characters ended up on Capcom Fighting Evolution on PS2 and Xbox
 
I know it sounds like red earth but I do remember playing it on the Genisis. I wish I could remember more but it was a long time ago. I have played Capcom fighting evolution for the X box but those aren't the characters. I do know that when I played it at my cousins house before I got my own Genisis I asked him if they had it for the SNES and he said no that's why I assumed it was only for Sega.

wonder if one of those obscure titles like beast wrestler fits the bill.
