Wat Up Wit XBL!?

Ok, admittedly I don't know the whole story about this, but so far I haven't liked the information I've heard.

Microsoft is apparently having two tiers of service for their next generation Xbox Live, "Silver" and "Gold". Silver is supposed to be free of charge and enables you do download extra levels and add ons and stuff, and do video-conferencing or something like that, but you can't even play other people over it!? You still gotta pay an annual fee to "upgrade to Gold" and actually play online on your Xbox? As well, Microsoft is going to start implementing "microtransactions" or something retarded like that, which is just paying for extra content in games.

First of all, Nintendo has already come out and stated that they will provide free online capabilities right out of the box on the Revolution, no fees or extra costs of any kind. Microsoft's response to this is the console equivalent of expansion packs!? What is MS thinking!? They're supposed to be at the forefront of this "online" thing! So far it seems like the company that said that "online is not the future of gaming" is doing a better job of providing online gaming to its customers than MS!

Well, I guess that may not be true. We haven't actually seen the Revolution go online yet, but the wifi they have in the DS shows that Nintendo has some idea of what they're doing. All I can say is that I'm really dissapointed with MS. I thought for sure that online would be the area that the Xbox 360 would win this console race hands down, but it already seems like they're simply maintaining the status quo instead of truly expanding their strongest strength. And I'm already having these doubts in MS before I even hear about what Sony's going to do for online, which I'm sure will at least match Microsoft's offering.

MS better have some big surprises up their sleeve at E3. If the MTV special was their "right foot forward" then they have a lot of running to do just to catch up to Sony and Nintendo.

Although it sucks that MS is making you pay for it, which is essentially the same way it is now, it will still probably sell. It will sell because xbox 360 is the hot system right now. Im sure there are a lot of casual gamers out there who dont know anything about GC and its free service out there. Remember, even though it seems xbox dropped the ball here, its still Nintendo who needs to catch up to xbox. Until the Revolution becomes an actual threat to the xbox 360 then they might consider dropping the price.

I would still pay the same 50 bucks a year for it, I would probably even go up to 75 or 80..............really, i think its worth it............

i think the 360 will be the lagger this generation. and a lot to do with microtransactions and paying for online. me and stealth arnt the biggest fans of nintendo :-X but im pulling for nintendo this round too. i still cant get over what they say there going to do for online services. everything is free!! whoa im all about some online gaming and expecially when i can get a free router. but there is just one question. how much is this thing gonna cost and if its in the same runnings with the other systems what sacrafices will have to be made?

I like the whole idea of being able to make cash of the new XBL. Make a new level that owns and get rewarded for your hard work. I am really interested in the depth of the new XBL.

Ya but who's going to put down actual money to pay for these things? I'm not gonna buy a $60 game just to spend another $60 on maps. Why wouldn't they let you share your maps for free, and the reward of making a good map would be when you see other people playing on it.

right.. .and that is stupid.

I think this is going the wrong direction....
Why pay for additional content.... its like everyone is getting the Ipod syndrome.
