What Are Your Thoughts On The Oil Disaster?

I don't know much about it,but it certainly is a dire situation of the greatest magnitude.Do you think they will succeed in stopping it anytime soon? Any opinions?

Godspeed.

Nope. It's already reached the shoreline where I spent vacation a couple of weeks ago. Now I gotta go out of state to go to the beach, instead of just a 6 hour drive south. >.> grrrrrrrrrrrr.

I was thinking they had better technology to clean stuff up like this. I'm not sure if they are even using any of it. It is possible it is worse than what they are letting us know.

It is worse than they are letting us know

most of the oil is still in the ocean towards the bottom of it and it just keeps getting bigger.

They are going to try to stop it with another pipe though.

I have been wondering why those lines don't have shut off valves on them. They do this with every other type of transmission line. Had there been a shut off valve there would be almost nothing to clean up right now.

There hasn't been any oil yet on my area, apparently it's been moving away. If only there were shut off valves in the first place. ::)

That's what I'd love to know. At first I thought it was coming straight out of the ground. When I found out it was shooting out of a pipe and then I got pissed that there's no shut off valve. You would think that would be common sense. Not to mention, why has nobody involved asked BP this?

Whats funny is they probably arent even thinking about a shutoff valve at all

Someone should ask them why they didnt have a shut off

But nothing about this is really funny at all...

If there isn't one, then why would they? We don't know for sure, do we?

Once all this gets sorted out, then they should be asked. First they should be focusing on cleaning up.

You do have a point. Cleanup is step one. But they are still trying to figure out a good way to go about it and its been about 2 weeks now?

Oil is extremely tricky. Especially since it's so deep in the water. It's not like a ship that had it's hull pierced. Whatever it is they need to do, they have to make sure that it's accurate and that they don't more harm to the environment.

well...unfortuneately they cant just...burn it can they?? or something of the sorts to just make it go quick?
They already burnt some of it. I saw it waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out on the horizon when I was at the beach a couple weeks ago.

Like Thrav said, they can, but the fumes are also toxic. So it's not something you really want to do for long periods of time. Also, you can't burn what's under water. Most of it is under water right now.

It'll rise. I don't think they'll burn it if it gets to shore first, though. :-\
