Hello Members,I Hope This Post Finds You All Well,

Just yesterday I went to a local Second Hand shop that deals in used video games, instruments and computers.I was looking through the used games and noticed some old Genesis games for sale.Seeing those games sure brought back some old memories,well..sort of,I used to drink a great deal back then, anyway I noticed that on a couple of the cartridges up around the top right was a small yellow piece of plastic that looked as though it were inserted in some way.

Then it occurred to me,I always wanted to know what that was for,but never found out.I was hoping someone in the forum could tell me.What is it?

God Bless

Hi Guys!

Some were EA,kind of like NHL 93 or something like that.

Ah okay. EA carts were usually made like that. It was like a trademark almost, EA couldn't fit the carts into the proper size format that Sega asked them too.

They didn't have the technology down pack, American made games are always barbaric in size and file size at times.

Take for example, file compression on PS2 game saves on the memory card. Sports titles suck up the most memory because they are too much in a rush to release a sports title at a deadline to work around it. the other game companies try hard to shrink down that save file. Same process with cartridge based games.

Is that really the reason? I always thought sports games took up so much save space because they really just had that much to save, what with having to retain information on 20+ teams and stats on all those teams and their players and whatnot.

Yes actually, most PC programs can crunch all that information quickly. For example, Tekken 4 has a "TEKKEN FORCE" Mode and you can save your place and character and data.

Soul Calibur 4 has that same premise, between making characters, Tower Mode, and Arcade mode. They are still able to compress those files for an easy minimum save.

Basically, what I should be saying is the Japanese have this down pack when it comes to file compression. EA never fully grasped this concept and I have no clue why.
