Gears can't have a well drawn out story if their characters are so one dimensional. Sadly, John DiMaggio's voice is gone to waste with the horrible writing as well.

agreed, that was one of my complaints in number 1.

also i think it's funny that used to say "lynch" instead of "lich" you guys helped me out on that one right there XD...

and yes i agree with Mega i should have given LBP a bit more time to get used to the controls and what not

I agree. I don't know why Gears' storyline is such a big deal anyway. Does anyone really care why they're shooting Locust goons? Does anyone really care if the character they are controlling has deep, complex, noble motivations for his actions? I know I sure don't.

Its an over-the-top, 3rd-person, cover-based, shooter, with big guns, big armour suits, and big bad guys. Some people aren't having fun with this combination because they aren't emotionally attached to the characters? Gimme a break. In a game that makes curb stomping a primary combat tactic, someone's concern over whether or not their character cries seems an odd complaint.

:lol I agree with that! Besides, the scenes are breathtaking and the Chainsaw attached to a freakin' weapon is absolute genius! A good character basis and story line does improve a games quality (in my opinion), but there's something to be said about your classic "GET IN THERE" games where you are drawn in by the detail, the artistic splendour, and the in this case, the fun of finally mowing down your foes, chain-sawing them in half, then going up to that last foe looking down with a grin of absolute evil, bloodthirsty hatred before stomping their brain mass into a juicy pulp! ::D

.... yes, blood and gore bring out the very sinister side in me, and when you've spent ages trying to get past a spot where you keep getting mowed down, you walk up to that last moaning enemy and tell me you have pity for them.

I actually care a great deal about the story. Without that story it takes away from the entertainment of the game itself. I personally got to like the character of Master Chief because his story wasn't bad at all. Marcus on the other hand seems so one dimensional that I just can't get the connection that bring me into the game.

while i agree the story in Gears of war 1 didn't hold my attention, i have to disagree that a game always needs a story (though if it has one or attempts to have one it should be at least decent) my problem with Gears of wars 1 was that i really didn't like either the story or the gameplay, and sometimes at least one of the 2 is needed for me to really get into the game (example: Mario games... storyless but have fun gameplay, Odin sphere. it has a great story but the gameplay is average)
