World At War: A Brief Reflection

When this game first came out, I didn't think too much of it. The fact that it wasn't made by Infinity Ward, and that I had been burned by Treyarch's attempts before, meant I had little desire to play this game, but a friend of mine bought it and showed it to me and I have to say I'm impressed. I haven't played much of the single player, but I have played a lot of the offline multiplayer, and while the controls don't feel quite as polished and natural as Call of Duty 4's the content of the game is unique, despite being WWII, and the strategies employed to win are quite a bit different. The Nazi Zombies mode could be a game unto itself, and I'd really like to see what they can do with that in future games. I'd also like to see what other unique game modes they could come up with.

It really is quite a bit of fun, and I feel bad for writing it off initially without having played it.

Maybe they used the developers from Grey Matter (Return the Castle Wolfenstein, Call of Duty: United Offensive) this time around. Call of Duty 3 would not have been botched, had Activision put Grey Matter at the helm, instead of folding them into Treyarch, and in the process, making half of the employees leave. >_>

Now that I'm done ranting, I haven't played World at War yet, but what I've seen is promising. Seems like Treyarch did a good job with WaW which is somewhat of a surprise after the disaster that was CoD 3.

Insomniac...? Don't you mean Infinity Ward?

That's funny actually. For one random moment during a class I had last week I, for no reason, realized that I had accidentally said Insomniac when I meant to say Infinity Ward, but I couldn't remember if I said that during a conversation or what. I completely forgot I even made this topic until just now. Thanks for the correction. :lol

I was as skeptical as they come, and I am now a believer. :D

I highly recommend trying it out and putting some time into it. I don't know too much about the single player, but the multi's definitely a blast.

I just picked up this game yesterday and I have to say, is it me or this game is more insanely hard on Veteran compared to COD2??

That would be the definition of 90% of the sequels out there. New levels, minor gameplay and weapon changes.

They have done little to change this series at all. Play Call of Duty 1, and play Call of Duty: World at War. You will see little difference besides a graphics upgrade.

I have played Call of Duty 1 and every Call of Duty but World At War start to finish. There is a difference, but you're right most of the game is the same old massive, chaotic, and frenetic battles. What a terrible thing. ::)

Honestly, there is no room for improvement with scripted shooters which is what Call of Duty is so they could do little but give you the same amazing intense experience over and over again. I don't know how that is a bad thing though. I'm all for innovation, but Call of Duty has always been a scripted shooter and there is just nowhere left to go in that genre.

as a result they at least give you new situations to keep that feeling going
