XBox May Get 1 Year Jump on PS3

Microsoft is faced with an important dilemma concerning its choice of release date for the XBox 2. According to developer reports and to a steady supply of leaked statements, Microsoft's next-gen console is the one that is nearest release and the company now has to decide if it will risk launching it by Christmas 2005.
According to several key industry sources, Microsoft is working towards a Christmas 2005 launch for its next Xbox console in US, with a European release likely to take place in early 2006. If XBox 2 does go down that route it will be a clear indication that Microsoft is attempting to pull a Sony on the next-gen console market by getting a clear lead in store-shelves. As is obvious there is an inherent risk in that strategy since rivals will be able to adapt their console designs in order to claim superiority to XBox 2.
US sources, including a major publisher claiming that Microsoft is definitely targeting Christmas 2005 with its next XBox, have been insisting that MS is willing to take that risk, especially when considering that PS3s launch may be pushed back as far as 2007. The first reports surfaced when developers begun revealing XBox 2 game release dates which were very close to the Christmas 2005 season.
Microsoft has suffered this round of the console wars, largely due to Sony's head start with the PS2 and the news coming from Sony itself can only be seen as encouraging with Sony's European chief David Reeves, already having claimed that the PlayStation 2 is only halfway through its life-cycle. There is also speculation that Sony's insistence to integrate high-end DVD technology into the PS3 may also lead to a delay.
If all these leaks and expert guesses prove right, Microsoft could end up with a one year jump on the PlayStation 3, with Nintendo's offering, currently codenamed Revolution, expected to appear half-way between the two. Source: success-hk.com :af

Not bad, except for one fact: What about all the Xbox games that are set to launch soon? I mean, we won't even have time to beat them before spending our pennies on the next big console...
Either way, I hope my parents won't complain when I get Xbox 2...
How much will it cost?

man..... I also heard a rumor that the new Nintendo system will release at the end of this year.

BUT what good will it be to beat out Sony by that much time. That just gives them an advantage to see the other competitors and make last minute changes.

exactly, this is stupid and sounds there trying to make Sony's mistake now. The PS3 will have a advantage on them and be able to pump out much more power. Guys just MAKE us wait and give us a much more powerfull machine, it's much better in the long run and console's CAN'T be upgraded. I can game on the PC for a while while I wait, so take your time and make a great machine instead of a OKAY machine that will be underpowered in the future.

Out of all three? Worldwide? Haha...

DS no doubt.

But in terms of consoles? Maybe the Wii. It really depends on how Sony does soonly. Without regard really, Nintendo makes a TON of money this generation via DS and potentially Wii (well, money made from Wii for sure, but how much?).

Most definitely not Microsoft. They continue to lose money - how are they ever to make any? And does turning a profit actually make up for all the deficit? I think not.

soonly? :lol

Anyways, Microsoft's already killing the competition. Poor Sony and Nintendo, I do feel really bad for them...not having the jump Microsoft did. But then again, I can't say anything bad about Nintendo here at EGameaddiction...it's like jumping in front of a pack of hungry wolves.

All I can do is laugh. Thank god the world only exists for the Western Hemisphere.

That's right FOO! I bust your knee caps in, yo!

Actually... I am not sure what you are talking about. I've even posted things about Nintendo I didn't like. I just don't do the trollin rant N rave :lol (anymore).

Neither do I. It seems that the people who believe this just keep throwing it out there and are the ones keeping it alive. Anyways...

Are we talking in terms of profit? If that's that case then It would surely be both Microsoft and Nintendo. Nintendo is making a profit from the beginning, Microsoft needs to sell a certain amount before they can start making a profit but they will.

In terms of units sold? MS no doubt.

People are obviously in denial...lol but that's alright. Everyone else told me you guys might say something like that. :lol Or at least a few people. :p

In denial of what exactly? Seems like you can't let this go, where as most people have. People talk bad about every system here and people who enjoy those systems defend it. You're points are not valid towards the entire board just a select few who have admitted to being Nintendo fanboys. Just like there are a couple who have admitted being a Sony and MS fanboy. How about actually debating for once and not having to resort to the usual, "You're a fanboy," comment that doesn't hold water towards the entire board? It's seriously getting old.

In fact it's so old that I won't comment on this anymore as I have said everything Ive been meaning to say. Don't really care anymore. So let's keep this topic on track.

Microsoft will have the edge in sales overall, Nintendo will come in second, at least that's how I see it shaping up. Unless Sony pulls out some new exclusive killer franchises. Actually if they pull out just one killer title it can catapult Sony into first place again.

Alright...

Why don't you show me the evidence that Microsoft stands to make a profit?

Furthermore, as I've brought up before, if you spend 4,000 dollars (maybe on credit), then go to work and make 2,000 dollars.... You haven't really made 2,000 dollars. You've cleared 2,000 from your deficit, leaving you still at a negative 2,000 dollars.

Microsoft's gaming division isn't coming out of debt any time soon, unless you've got evidence otherwise? I'd entertain that idea.

And I suppose when you're speaking of "units sold" you're speaking of only the USA market and not the worldwide market, right? I'll assume so, because otherwise you're nuts.

I know how profits work. I never said it would be coming out of debt soon either. Ill try to find some reports on it for you.

Obviously Im speaking of America. Plus I wasn't counting handhelds, just purely consoles.
