Just know, however, that 8-10 months after this official price drop, they'll confirm the next console and release details on it.

They just gotta keep pushing. I don't even have a PS3 yet. (Although, there aren't many PS3 games I am even interested in right now, and I don't even have time for all the games I want to play on the systems I do already have, including the 360.

Yeah, that's normal, Nintendo started the Wii a month after the Gamecube launched.

Re: 360 Price-cut coming July 6th!

UPDATE:

According to CAG.com (Cheapassgamer.com), July 13th is the offical price cut of the 360 now.

In fact, Target stores are offering a free $25 gift card with the purchase of the system that week of Sunday the 13th

Re: 360 Price-cut coming July 6th!

So price cut and a gift card? Not bad.

Development of a new console begins the day the earlier one is launched.  This is true for all three console makers, but just because they are making the next console doesn't mean that they're abandoning the 360 two and a half years into its lifespan.

Re: 360 Price-cut coming July 6th!

I'm not so sure about development the day after the console is made. But since Sony hasn't started and Nintendo said they're not starting development for a lil while, it'll be some time before we see anything new from them. Microsoft has already released details about the new dashboard for the next Microsoft console....rather than update the current one, they're already looking far into the future. I can see this happening with their games as well.

I doubt that neither company has started making their next console. It's three years into this generation. They aren't stupid enough to have not started designing their next consoles. I'm curious as to where Nintendo said they weren't developing their next generation console for a while too.

And where was this? I've seen a topic about a rumor (from 4Chan of all places) that Microsoft is releasing a new dashboard design for the 360, but not this.

If I bookmarked the site I read it off of months ago, I'd have that for you.

Microsoft's been hiring for the new dashboard for the generation following this for some while now. Details have been few, but they've been there.

Where? I've been on vacation for a week, so I'm a little slow on the news side of things.

Re: 360 Price-cut coming July 6th!

Ah, I'll have to dig up the facts and everything on the GameTrailers boards tomorrow. It's way past my bed time right now. I'm exhausted. :lol

Re: 360 Price-cut coming July 6th!

Nobody's talking about actual development, but you honestly can't say the companies aren't brainstorming.

Rumor: Mircosoft preparing a 60GB X360 Bundle

http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3168589

If the 20GB Xbox 360 has always seemed too small to you, but you don't think you'd use all of the space in the 120GB version, Microsoft may soon be announcing a new SKU in the middle that could be just right. According to an e-mail from Microsoft to GameStop and Blockbuster (leaked to Xbox Family), a new 60GB version of the Xbox 360 will launch later this month, followed by phasing out the original 20GB 360 Premium pack.
The leaked e-mail also states that a stand-alone 60GB hard drive for $99.99 will replace the current 20GB hard drive, and the 120GB stand-alone drive will drop from $179.99 to $149.99. Below is a portion of the e-mail published by Xbox Family:

"With the introduction of the 60GB Pro console in July, we have research that suggests it is very important to have a 60GB stand alone Hard Drive to go along with it to allow the consumer a full range of choices and values. In late October/early November (exact date TBD but most likely last week in October or first week in November), we will ship the Xbox 360 60GB Hard Drive, tentatively called the 'Xbox 360 60GB LIVE Starter Pack.' This will be an excellent value price at and ERP of $99.99 with an 18% retail margin that contains:

"-60GB Hard Drive
3 Months of Xbox Live
Xbox 360 Wired Headset
Xbox 360 Ethernet Cable (same one that is included with Pro and Elite)
"Positioning: For Xbox 360 Arcade and Core console owners, the Xbox 360 60GB Live Starter Pack offers all of the components to get onto Xbox LIVE and jump in to on line multiplayer gaming and Marketplace content downloads at an incredible value."

The supposed Microsoft e-mail goes on to paint the move as part of their focus on "choice and value."

1UP contacted several sources at Microsoft to get a comment on the leak. One representative gave us the standard, "We have nothing to announce at this time" -- tellingly, not a flat-out denial of the e-mail's claims. Heather Snavely, Microsoft's PR director of global platforms, provided a more interesting response:

"We can't comment on rumors. What I can tell you is that our plans for E3 haven't changed. We've got a lot of exciting news that, unfortunately, you and everyone else will have to wait to hear next week. The truth is, rumors will always be a part of our industry -- it's just one more sign of how eager gamers are to learn how we'll innovate next."
So despite recent problems with leaks being so rampant, Microsoft seems to have taken an approach of accepting that they can't control information getting out of their hands ahead of time. Still, how many people would call a $150 price tag for a 120GB hard drive "innovation"?

Wall Street Journal confirms this will happen this Sunday the 13th

Re: 360 Price-cut coming July 6th!

Maybe Microsoft is the one that ought to continue fixing the problems that already exist with the system they have out now, rather than get cracking straight away on a new one. And yeah, pay closer attention to the new one so they don't have anything like RRoD on the new one.

Re: 360 Price-cut coming July 13th!

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/13/microsoft-confirms-xbox-360-60gb-for-349-20gb-now-at-299/

Microsoft has confirmed that the 20GB Xbox 360 console has received a $50 price cut to $299, and taking its place in the $349 tier is a new 60GB console arriving early August. The Xbox 360 Arcade (i.e. no HDD) will continue to sell for $280 and the Elite (120GB) model will sell for $449.

We wouldn't blame if you if you felt this was old news: rumors of the 60GB model date back to mid-June and it seems like every major retailer confirmed the price cut in the last week. Now if only someone can explain to us why anyone would continue to buy the HDD-less Arcade model when you can get a 20GB hard drive for only $20 more ...

Okay I combined these two topics, due to the fact they have a connection.

1. Yes the price cut has happened. It's happened today.

2. Microsoft is pulling a "Sony" maneuver by discontinuing the 20GB models and all 20GB Harddrives

3. Replacing those 20 GB's with a brand new 60 GB Model by early August, it's price will be shot back up to $350.

4. $299.99 is for a limited time only until they are ALL GONE. So if you don't have a 360, NOW is the year to do so before they go back up!

5. Remember: You can always upgrade that Harddrive to a bigger one, later on down the road.

Re: 360 Price-cut coming July 13th!

Kinda like Sony just that Sony didn't shoot the price back to the price that the 20GB was at.

Mega, wouldn't it be cheaper to wait for the 60GB seeing as the 360's harddrives are outrageously overpriced.

Well if you think about it, they are shooting it back up to $350 after the 20GB are gone. Similar to Sony's move

Re: 360 Price-cut coming July 13th!

While not quite as widespread as this morning's nationwide $50 pricecut (aka: clearance sale) on the 20GB Xbox 360 Pro, the Xbox 360 Elite wasn't content sitting around while its kid brother gobbles up all the attention (and sales). For what we presume will be a limited time only, Amazon is cutting $50 off the still-$450 Elite, making the HDMI-enabled, 120GB console seductively affordable. Now, if someone would just pay some attention to the $280 Xbox 360 Arcade, we'd have a price-cut hat trick.

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/13/sku-too-xbox-360-elite-for-400-at-amazon/

Looks like Amazon or someone else wants Elite to drop price as well.
