Abortion?

What i fail to understand is why people still refer and justify abortions in the fact that a the baby was an "accident". There have been no accidental pregnancy since the 1950's when contraceptives because extremely popular. If two people screw around and end up pregnant that thats the risk you take. As with everything in life there are risks to the actions you take.

It's as if people take no accountability for their actions and say their the victim of a horrendous accident. If the parters don't take appropriate preparation and get pregnant, than i have no sympathy at all and they shouldn't get an abortion. Because they made the mistake and they must take accountability for their actions and face the consequences.

And of course there are exceptions for rape victims etc, there are some situations where control is limited.

Good Point.....

I agree with what someone mentioned earlier about not being 100% for or against it. I think the decision really needs to be looked at on a case by case basis, and certainly the thoughts of the people who are actually in the situation should hold the most weight. It easy for me to sit here and tell someone else that they should or shouldn't keep their child, but I don't have to live with the consequences either way.

Speaking of consequences, I also agree with what one other person mentioned about accountability. If you're not ready to accept the consequences of an action, then don't perform the action. It's as simple as that. Abortions are cop outs, of the highest degree.

Of course, in the case of the rape victim, the person who did make the choice doesn't have to face the consequences, and vice versa. Hence, case by case basis.

It is also important to note that the person who has their life taken away as a result of this decision doesn't have any say in whether or not they get to live, and if the would-be parents do decide to get an abortion, the would-be person has to suffer for their irresponsibility or what have you. Yes the child may be born into a less than ideal situation, but they still might prefer that to death. Would it also be ok to kill the child a minute after it's born? A month? A year? If not at conception, at what point is killing this person murder?

Very tough questions, that I certainly don't have the answers to. The only one I can give is, once again, take it on a case by case basis, because blanket statements that try to encompass a subject like this is 1) not going to work, and 2) going to piss people off.

And on that note let me once again encourage everyone to continue being respectful and accept the fact that you will disagree with someone here, and that's ok.

Again, good points. The only thing I would say to that though is that usually the parents are not the ones who face the consequences. It's typically either the child, or the working class population that pays the price for peoples lack of responsibility. These young, unfit parents keep bringing babies in to this world, and then those babies end up being unfit parents that bring babies in to this world, and it goes on and on and on. Like others have said it's more of a problem with society on a whole, though, and it will just get worse and worse if things don't change.

My third child was born at 12:12PM this afternoon. 7 pounds, 11 ounces. Looks like my wife. Has blonde hair and is already a mild mannered kid. He didn't cry all that much today. Only cried when he was unwrapped and cold. It's funny that I can already see him playing basketball in highschool because he's a bit tall at 21 inches for a newborn.

What does this all mean? I am a staunch opponent of abortion. Not to the point that I'd plan on blowing up clinics and killing doctors, because I feel that change only comes from the heart. I see my newborn son and his two older siblings and cannot for a second think of how I'd overcome the guilt of snuffing out their lives before they have a fighting chance.

I cannot make anyone agree with me. I only have my own convictions. Life begins at conception. And if the law of the land says that taking a life is murder, then I firmly believe that abortion is indeed murder.

Other options to this would be abstinence. Or it could be using birth control. Honestly I think that if you don't want kids, then don't have sex. But I know how Western Society sees this as unpopular. There's also adoption. How many people in this world cannot have kids? An option that's easy, but often overlooked.

Like I said before, you cannot for a minute understand fully how I feel about it until you come home and have the same wrist band as the little one that fully trusts you with it's life.

Congrats Dart! What a special day to remember forever :)

It is my opinion that once there is cell division, that's life. So, it's also my opinion that if you abort after that it's murder. Also, cell division occurs far before you could ever know. However, in the case of rape or danger to the mother's life then I feel that it's alright.

Hey congrats here too! Even though I am past the child rearing days, I can still remember the awe of that tiny person coming from the union of two people. It still blows my mind. I took my camera into the delivery room. I can still remember the natural childbirth classes.
