Abused as Gamers This Gen?

I think we have been abused as gamers but not by the import situation. Things like on-disc DLC, extreme charges on DLC, and exclusive preorder bonuses that never become available to others (or do as overcharged DLC).

Another excellent topic! All I have to say is, I AM SICK OF DLC! I have wasted too much freakin money on this crap!

Yep. I remember back when DLC was newer, to consoles at least, when it was cheap or free altogether. I loved Bungie's Halo 2 system- pay and get the maps sooner, or wait 6 months and they were free for everyone.

I'm not a big fan of pre-order bonuses, either. I used to be, but now I don't like it because I don't always get games right when they come out.

Even then you have situations where different retailers offer different bonuses, so then it is not just a matter of preordering it to get the content but deciding WHAT content you actually want.

Ugh, I know. They are doing that with Gears of War 3. I pre-ordered mine at GameStop and luckily their bonus is the one I wanted anyway. But even if it wasn't, the bonus isn't enough to make it worth reserving from one retailer over another. Chances are, all the bonuses will eventually be able to buy on the Marketplace.

Not to mention all the personal information these companies now want from us (all of which are prone to hackers), and the use of platforms to necessitate subsequent purchases (HD TVs, Blu-Ray movies, online currencies, motion peripherals, premium accounts, etc.).

I feel abused as a gamer, fo show.

In response to Mega's question, as a Canadian I don't feel particularly abused. I find Americans have a double-standard about FPS games, where slaughtering thousands as an American is ok, but shooting some people as a Russian/Afghani/non-American is a crime, is a little annoying. But that's a minor grievance, and not all Americans maintain that double-standard either.

We totally got the shaft on Rock Band when they didn't print bilingual instructions, but that was our own fault; we should have forced Quebec to separate years ago. ::)

As a gamer, I'm getting hosed, as a Canadian gamer, not so much.

Whoa, that is beyond stupid on being shafted on Rock Band! I can't believe they did that to you guys. The personal information overload does worry me a bit as well.

As for FPS and the double-standards, I never thought about that until you pointed it out. Ever since COD MW2 it's been double standards. I hate the fact we have to tip toe and please everyone's needs in this country before even making a game. I thought it was once the land of the free, not the land of "Is this okay by you?"
