am I seriously the only Tales fan here?

That makes me sad. The Tales series rocks! I know some people didn't get to play Tales of Symphonia because it was on GC and not everyone owns GC, but Tales of Legendia is for PS2 and it freaking rocks too!!

Seriously guys.

For people who worry about game length, Tales of Legendia is easily an 80+ hour game. It is separated into two parts and the first set of credits roll about 30 hours in, so some people who perhaps didn't play the game long enough might not even know that there was more to it. But after you finish the main quest you get into the Character Quests, which are even longer than the main quest!

The main issue is that the Main Quest has full voice acting while the Character Quests are only voiced during battles and in select cut scenes. But honestly, it doesn't take anything away from the game, IMO. The voice-acting is all well done, although one of the characters sounds a little too similar to a character from Tales of Symphonia, so it's kind of weird.

Tales of Legendia features a real-time battle system, similar to Tales of Symphonia, although they did add a few things like throws.

The characters are all pretty likeable and the story, while typical saving-the-world rpg fare, does have its high points. Especially during the character quests, where you find out the stories of each of the characters.

Anyway, if you like rpgs...you should at least check this game out.

I'm just not really a fan of the battle system. I dunno, i've become so used to menu-based battle systems that I just find real time difficult to adjust to. I feel it takes a big deal of strategy away from the battles when you can just slash away endlessly to win. It was the same with Kingdom Hearts and Star Ocean: TTEOT. I grew up on the "Final Fantasy" style of RPG and don't like change.

Retro, move your cheese man!! I, like you, am more comfortable with turn-based battle styles. BUt then I started playing Arc the Lad. Weird battle system. It's not quite turn style, but it's still pretty fun.

I liked Symphonia, it was very cool indeed. Though the summoning system could have been a lot better. I'll get this game when I have money/time to spare. Do they have summons in this game and also if it does, did they change the summoning system?

Is Tales of Phantasia related to this series? The old SNES(released in japan only till gba port just recently i believe)

Not to you personally, but a lot of people have mentioned that they don't likes Tales because they are convinced that the battle system is just button mashing.

And whenever I see that, I can tell that the person has no clue what they are talking about. I wish I could just button mash. :lol But it's a lot deeper than that, especially when you get farther in the games. There's a point when elemental magic comes into play; if your magic casters are casting elements that your enemies are resistant to, it can really make the battle hard. You also have points where you have 8 people in your battle, but only 4 actually fight in battles, and sometimes certain characters are better for fights than others due to their different movesets. So strategy comes into play there as well.

So honestly, I would be truly amazed if someone was able to get through the whole game without employing some amount of strategy.

I had played Tales of Symphonia for GC and loved it. Although, after getting to the second disc, I don't know what happened. All the battles were incredibly easy now, save for a couple boss battles here and there. But still, the whole game overall was really cool.

Also, I don't know what the estimated play time for that game was, but I think I beat it in a little over 40 hours. Anyway, I wrote a review on that one and sent it to BV some time ago.

I'll try it out...seems like fun! :D Don't know about the battle system, though.

If I have converted anyone into a Tales fan, make sure you guys check out Tales of the Abyss when it comes out on the PS2 sometime this year. Abyss was actually made by the Tales team and is supposed to be better than Tales of Symphonia.

I don't like the Tales series. I picked up Tales of Symphonia sometime last year to give it another shot, but alas.. the poor game sucks. I had this wild sense of dejavu throughout the entire portion of my play time - memories of games ranging from Grandia II to Skies of Arcadia flooded my mind throughout the title for whatever reason. That and the combat wasn't too engaging.

So, despite a second chance... Tales gets a thumbs down from me. I even have a Tales of Symphonia poster! You know, the rectangular card that came with preorders perhaps..? What little good it does me, though there is some decent art in the game.

I'll be damned. I agree with you. This is weird.

I like watching people play any of the games in the Tales series, however I absolutely hate playing them.

The battle system is HORRIBLE...I cannot say enough how much I hate strategy and action RPG's. I love traditional RPG's...turn-based FTW, you will almost never see me deviate from them.

I don't know... there are a lot of people that enjoy those games. They can't be THAT boring. But I see where you are coming from as there are many popular games as of late that I find boring.

†B†V† :hat

The storylines border on generic, I admit. But what rpg storyline these days doesn't? For me, the Tales games are fun because of the humor. They take themselves less seriously.
