Are Blank DVD Discs The Same As VHS Blank Tapes In This Respect?

Hi People!

I was curious.

I know that with "VCR'S" that when you were taping something,the slower the recording speed,the better the picture.The drawback being that it takes more room on the tape.
Is this the same thing with blank "DVD" discs?

I thought for DVDs the effect is just a matter of the writing speed of your DVD burner. Regardless for the sake of a DVD speed does not translate into better quality so it is not equivalnt to a VHS tape in that regard.

The quality of your video on a DVD would also be affected by the encoding ou are using whether your video and sound are encoded in the high definition medium or standard definition.

In principle, yes, because a higher recording frequency puts more information on the disc, it is like recording more slowly on an analog tape.

In practice, digital media generally has set recording frequency values. Most consumer level DVD recording equipment won't allow for major adjustments of those values.

So, as said above, the difference between recording at 4x or 16x on a DVD is really just about the speed the particular equipment can move the SAME amount of information.
