Bug in Metroid: Other M makes game unbeatable (Update: Nintendo's Solution)

http://www.joystiq.com/2010/09/18/game-breaking-bug-found-in-metroid-other-m/

After years of hunting space pirates, alien insects and metroids, it looks like there's one bug that can defeat Samus -- or, more precisely, one glitch in Metroid: Other M. IGN reports that players have encountered a bug that makes it impossible to complete the game.

As IGN puts it "if the door on the far side of the lava pit in Sector 3 after you leave the desert refinery via the elevator is red, you're stuck." The offending door can be seen in the image above. Nintendo is aware of the issue but there is currently no solution to this problem.

According to YouTube users kNIGHTWING01, the glitch is caused by saving the game after beating the area boss for the third time. Apparently, if players save the game after beating this boss but before opening the door in question, it will remain locked and cannot be opened. Should this occur, the only way to fix the glitch is to load an older save file or start the game over from the beginning (unskippable cutscenes and all). See a video of the glitch below.

Too bad they couldn't find this during game testing. Nintendo won't fix it, so just a heads up if you're playing through again or looking at buying this game. Do NOT make this mistake.

well whatever. I already beat the game at 100% and to get stuck with this glitch is basically impossible for me anyway. thanks for the heads up though since i do plan on enjoying this game again anyway.

Yeah, just watch out for it on your second play-through. Sad Nintendo won't update their games though. That's kind of a bummer. :-\

bummer indeed but it is still playable and it is still enjoyable so as long as i know what NOT to do i don't really care

Honestly, I don't understand why Nintendo won't patch it, though. I mean that would not help people who can't access the internet with their Wiis, but at least it would be something. Every other company puts out patches that fixes bugs like that. That's why 360 and PS3 games have updates every once in a while. I don't know how they would go about making a patch, but it seems sad that they aren't going to even make an effort.

I thought you meant like insectoid monsters that would be impossible to defeat...

I don't see where it specifically say they won't fix it? All it says is that there is currently no solution. Does that make sense or am I mistaken?

Nintendo doesn't patch their games. This would be a first.

Re: Bug in Metroid: Other M makes game unbeatable

Maybe Nintendo needs to hire some new testers, perhaps? This seems like such a simple and easy glitch to come across by doing just one little thing as saving.
Least its easy enough to avoid by not.

Nintendo has a solution, but it's stupid. They want you to male in an SD card with your save file on it.

Either that or send in your Wii. Ugh. Sad.

Hey at least they have a solution that did not take too long to fix.

It'll take a week to send it out, and a week to get it back. That seems too long to me. I wish they'd just do updates. Get with the program Nintendo!

Exactly. Yes, there is a solution, but it's rather inconvenient. By that time you can probably just play back up to that point.

True, and that's just frustrating.
