BusinessWeek calls Nintendo the BEST Company in the WORLD.

MegaDrive20XX

Segatron Genesis... call me the wizard.
The House of Mario #1

So says a ranking in business publication BusinessWeek. The top forty companies were rated on 2008 sales and international sales percentage.

Consulting firm A.T. Kearney picked the best of the best from 2,500 companies worldwide. According to BusinessWeek, "Kearney then only considers those companies with 2008 sales greater than $10 billion, with at least 25% derived from outside their home region."

Here's how the top five looks:

5. Hyundai Heavy Industries (Shipbuilding)
4. Doosan Heavy Industries (Construction Products and Services)
3. Apple (Electronics)
2. Google (Internet Services)
1. Nintendo (Electronics)

Sony and Microsoft did not make the top forty.

They've only been around since the '80's as far as manufacturing electronics goes.
:lol yes... they are an old company though.

I'm not going to lie... I am a little surprised by this. However... like X2... I wouldn't mind a little fanboy dance. That is a killer accomplishment. If it was Microsoft or Sony, Nintendo should give a round of applause for either. It is only right they do the same.

The entire list is interesting. I couldn't find any sort of explanation of how much value was given to international sales versus overall sales and so on. Nintendo's largest advantage was in international sales %, they were much lower than most other companies in the other criteria assessed. And I don't mean lower than Sony and Microsoft, I mean lower than pharmaceutical, oil and gas, and mining and metals companies, which I would have expected to be at the top. Plus the category of "compounded annual growth rate" only goes back to 2004, so the only thing that category is taking into account is the boom in Wii and DS sales that Nintendo has experienced only recently. It doesn't do any long-term forecasting or anything like that, so really it seems like Nintendo is not the best company in the world, they are the best company in the world at selling their products internationally over the last four years, which makes sense, because the recession hit Japan almost as hard as it hit the states and the country is traditionally a heavy exporter so... etc.

Telecommunications and electronics are huge industries, but the nature of their products skews their statistics somewhat in a comparison with more traditional products provided by other companies.

Good on Nintendo, maybe this will give the videogame industry some cred, but on the global scale they're still little fish in a big pond.

I don't agree with it, I only found like 5 Wii games I like compared to 32+ PS3 games. My 2 cents. That and everybody likes Mario & friends or Link since Sega Saturn sales went south in Europe and US. Seattle Mariners can fund loads of Nintendo games....money tree! Safeco Field costs $517 million and 47,000 people make a lot of money to fund videogames.

Google's gonna take over the world some day

Naw. I think it's going to share the world with Yahoo and MSN/Bing search.
