Hi Members!

On my way out to chess earlier today,my ride was telling me about some young kid being so addicted to his XBox that he basically did nothing else with his time, that includes homework of course.Seeing this, his father took away the XBox in an effort to get his son back on track. The kid was so ticked off that he ran away and hasn't been home in a week!

I ask you,can a video game really have that much impact on a kids life?WOW!

God Bless,

When dealing with kids, moderation is key. Letting kids play games can be beneficial. They can learn hand-eye coordination, problem solving, and it could be a great tool for the parents to get the kids to be quiet for a while.

This kid with the Xbox who ran away, if I were his dad, I would report him as a runaway, call all of his friends' parents and wait it out. The cops will eventually pick him up, and he could stay in juvenile detention for a day. :D

Dude, remember about the British kid's Wii? The parent took away the Wii and HUNG himself. That was freaky for me to read that lol

Most children are not going to be so addicted er so into it that they run away er kill themselves without it....but some kids only have that. I mean, the rest of their real life sucks and it is their only safe place...their only escape, and for those kids..taking it away is like taking away their meaning and existance. I think that it is sad if they run away er kill themselves of course, but it is not normal, and if it DOES mean that much to a kid...I would hope the parents would realize that and work on fixing whatever is missing in the kid's life before they try to take the kid's escape away.

If a child is that addicted to videogames, not just because they enjoy them so much but because they don't enjoy anything else, then yeah, it can have a large impact on someone's life. But this rather unhealthy behaviour is a not a product of video games, the video games are just the symptom. If video games are the only thing someone has, as Mrs. E pointed out, its probably because they're experiencing a lot of difficulty and problems with other aspects of their life. So the question isn't "can video games really have that much impact on a kid's life?" but rather "what has happened in this kid's life that has made video games so important to him?"
