Claiming that only price cuts will save the system from poor NPD sales.

My 2 cents: We all know CNN are communist right? They were anti- President Bush from the get-go and never believe any other source except their own.

CNN is right. The PS3 was beating the 360 until the 360 cut prices. Had the PS3 just started a price war and cut prices back in response to Microsoft, the PS3 would have at least matched the 360's sales this month. Instead, 360 sales doubled PS3 sales. CNN is on target, on the issue of price at least. The other two issues they raised aren't very accurate, but the fact that the PS3 is $200 more than the 360 is huge.

Which is true, since they are still comparing the PS3 to when and how the PS2 took off. $200 is the magic number.

Yet, I'm still going to burn CNN for trying to think again.

In North America yes, the PS3 is being outsold by the 360 by a 2:1 ratio but, worldwide it's a different story.

Then I shall destroy the world.....with no mercy...

Yes, maybe to CNN, America is the only country that matters when it comes to sales. PS3's doing fine. Doesn't need a price cut, IMO. And in 2009, there's so many blockbuster games coming to the PS3, it's insane.

I wouldn't call it a "sinking ship", but I do think a price cut would probably help, especially considering the economy and all. Most people just simply don't have $400 to drop on a video game console right now.

Well given at that, what do you guys feel would be the price break to make PS3 rise back up to that of the PS2's popularity?

lol it is time for conflicting reports day. First news that PS3 is doing bad, then another media outlet says it is doing better than it did overall for total sales this year compared to the total sales of 2007, then more that Ps3 is failing then more that it is still holding its own considering its hefty pricetag.

I just dont know which website to trust anymore, its quite boggling.

As long as PS3 is selling I dont see what is wrong. Even though it is pricey, we have to still recognize that it is still a luxury item and people want it. PS3 just needs more games and I believe it will do even better just as PSP needs more games to do well.

Perhaps focusing on HOME should have been second priority for Sony this holiday season :(

i think the ps3 is a sinking ship alright.... but i live in bikini bottom so that ship is welcomed in this world XD (this is a positive statement)

Zi... not gunna lie to you, that was LAME.

no need to lie, but it's true, the ps3 has lots of games that go under the radar of many (aka valkyria chronicles)

As long as it doesnt go to Rock Bottom. does Spongebob still go to Rock Bottom?

idk i haven't watched it in a long time

I think that producers of games have it figured out in their budget and know when a game will slip under the radar.

Why else would SEGA have waited nearly a year to localize Valkyria Chronicles for NA. I think it only came over because enough people requested a game like it and it did garner their response. Now it is up to me to somehow go and buy it as well so that SEGA can still support the PS3, such as Bayonetta in the 2009.

The Washington Post is now attacking PS3's marketing.

Comparatively the PS3 is being outsold by the 360, and especially the Wii, in America and Worldwide. Yes, this is true. Does that mean it is a sinking ship? Hardly. The PS3 is still selling upwards of a couple hundred thousand units per month. It still has a strong attach rate and a number of good exclusive titles. It still has an install base of several million worldwide, and climbing. Its not exactly a "sinking ship."

However, Sony has made some crucial mistakes (like the price) and does have some problems to face on the horizon. They're not outselling their competitors which is something Sony would obviously like to change, but there is still time to correct aforementioned errors and catch up. I don't think Sony is in a position to think about catching up to Microsoft, let alone Nintendo, in the near future, and I don't think that ought to be their aim. The glory days of the PS2 are long gone and Sony needs to focus on getting their online infrastructure sorted out and actually start making good on the grand promises they made at launch. They need to solidify multi-plaftorm game release dates that rival the 360's, and they need to work closely with 3rd-party developers to lock down some exclusives. So far they've been trailing behind in everything, and they need to get caught up quickly in order to start leading their competitors in some areas. Until they do that, they are going to continue to fall behind.

That being said, its really odd and kind of sad to see the PS3 coming up in third place. I thought they had the best E3 and had a strong year all around with MGS4, LBP, Resistance 2, and so on. I very rarely say this but, it really seems like they're trying hard to give people what they want and expect, I wish their efforts were being rewarded a little more. Don't let Microsoft push you around Sony, you're a big boy too. :lol

What will the future hold though? Microsoft has exhausted their first party studios in 2008. Meanwhile we already have major scheduled titles coming out for the PS3 in '09. Square has already called 2009 "The Year of Final Fantasy" for Sony in Japan.

As for staying on topic, I can't really rely on CNN seeing as they only used NPD sales and not worldwide sales. If we went by Worldwide Sales the PS3 has been doing fine and is in second place.
