CNN/Money calls the PS3 a "Sinking ship"

Sony doesn't have to lower it if they don't want to.

But because of the price I'm not buying it now, and I'm sure there's many people that feel the same as I do.

If they lower the price, yes they will lose $140 on each console, but maybe they will sell more consoles. And if the real profit is really from game sales rather than console sales, more consoles in circulation means more games will sell.
 
Mmm, I'm just not sure. They'd have to sell a lot of games per console to make up the profit. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how this all plays out.

problem is that some people have been waiting for too long... they need to come up with something as soon as possible.
 
I would agree with Strubes.

Sure there would be way more consoles in circulation but each console owner would most likely have to get 4-6 Sony First Party Titles to make up for that $140 dollars lost. That seems like a large gamble.

Actually looking at my own PS3 collection it seems that I have 4 first party titles (and some downloadable ones) or the 10 PS3 games I own.

It just seems like a lot would be dependent on getting the gamers to invest in owning more 1st party titles, which would put Sony in another hole with needing to launch into massive advertising campaigns.
 
I don't think Sony needs to lower the price any more than they already have (although personally speaking I would obviously say the lower the better). What they need to do is communicate how much more value the PS3 has over the Wii and 360. The built-in wireless internet adapter and free online service alone make the PS3 cheaper than the 360. Add on top of that the fact that it is also a blu-ray player and suddenly people realize how much more they are getting when the buy a PS3 instead of a 360.

Sony needs to advertise the PS3 as the one console that can provide everything their competitors do for less, which is actually for the most part true. Then let people know of all of the things they can only do on a PS3 (watch blu-ray, play LBP, etc.). Arm people with the knowledge they need to rationalize spending more on a PS3, enable them to tell themselves and others it is the better choice, and to do this all Sony really needs to do is tell the truth. Just tell it louder and more often.
 
I dunno what happened, but all of a sudden I started seriously considering a PS3, lol. I never really thought of Sony products as being good quality, but the PS3 does seem to be very well made, which is a big draw for me. The only problem, though, is that there does not seem to be enough games for it. I checked out Gamestop's website and there is only 8 rpg's for PS3, and only a couple look good. There also doesn't seem to be many adventure type games. However, I have not been following the PS3 much so I do not know what is planned for the future. What great games are coming out for it? When does White Knight Chronicles come out?

P.S. No backwards compatibility does indeed suck, mostly because if I could trade in my PS2 I'd save some cash, and would also save room on my already crammed entertainment center :-\

Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, and Heavenly Sword are the best adventure games for PS3. As for RPGs I think it has enough right now. Disgaea 3 is probably the biggest one seeing as Disgaea has a reputation for being a game that could potentionaly have over 200 hours of gameplay. Metal Gear Solid 4 is most likely one of the single greatest epics to ever be developed in gaming. If you are into racers there are both of the Motorstorms. '09 looks to be a great year for the PS3 for games you have games like: inFamous, Killzone 2, God of War 3, Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain, Cross Edge, Yakuza 3 and a few others. For Dark Cloud fans, Dark Cloud 3 is being developed. Keep in mind people if you want FFXIIIVersus, it's only on the PS3. And to answer your question about White Knight, apparently it came out TODAY in Japan. We should see that one sometime in 09 as well.

Dude, that sounds pretty good! I had no idea a new Dark Cloud game was coming out for it. I absolutely love Dark Cloud 2. I bet the new Gran Turismo 5 will be sweet as well. And than, yea, it has MGS4, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, LBP, RE5, etc,...I might go buy one tomorrow, seriously. Oh, and is the online free?
 
Yea, completely. And sign-up is a breeze.

Oh, as for only 8 RPGs for the PS3, that's not so, Ebgames and gamestop only list 8. They are missing quite a few like: Folklore, Eternal Sonata, etc.

Ahh, I had thought that might be the case about the rpg thing. And that is awesome about the online, that alone would probably save about $50 a year. I really think I will go buy one tomorrow. I know I ragged on the price when it was $500-600, but $400 for the 80gb is not bad when you consider it all. So, you just got yours today Frodus? Do you have MGS4?
 
I got one!!! :D No games yet, but my B-day is on the 7th so I will ask for something then.

Haha! I just opened her up a little bit ago, what a beauty! The controller feels perfect to me. It is funny because a year ago I had no intention of ever owning a PS3, but things change. Reasons I went PS3 over 360 were, the hardware issues with 360, most games on 360 I like on PC better anyways, and I am cheap so free online is nice, too. Now I just need to decide what game to get first! I'll probably either get Motorstorm, Resistance, NG:Sigma, LBP, or MGS4...tough choice!

Gamestop may be a great friend to you x2. Buy 2 used games get 1 free. I got Uncharted for $39.99 and MGS4 for $29.99 and got Resistance 1 for free today. Why get a single game when you can get 3?

Not online yet, but will be soon. I can't wait to start playing around with LBP. Have you made any levels yet?
