A remake of an old topic.

And I still feel the same as I did back then, even though now it's PS3/Wii/360 instead of PS2/GC/Xbox.

Well, the only reason it gets boring is because nobody changes sides. It is like fighting a war where all the soldiers are invincible. No matter how much you do, the enemy won't die.

That about sums it up for me. It was a little fun at first but this far into it, everyone pretty much has their minds made up.

Agreed Jack.

The only time I start to get sick of it is when people stop arguing about consoles, and start going back and forth, insulting each other. Otherwise, I really enjoy console wars debates.

My opinion has changed since the last thread about this. :lol

Apparently I used to yearn for heated debates about consoles, but that's not really true anymore. I find I get much more out of discussions than I do debates. I would much rather constructively converse about a console than argue over it. I still enjoy a good debate here and there, but I guess I'm not as eager to prove the other person wrong as I once was.

I still enjoy talking about it though, weighing the pros and cons and trying to logically assess which console is of highest value. For example, the PS3 does cost more than the 360, but you don't have to pay for online, it can access the internet wirelessly out of the box, and it comes with a blu-ray player built in. The 360 can play HD-DVD's if you purchase the player, it costs $100 to get a wifi adapter to connect to the internet wirelessly, and it's $60 a year for online. So it's interesting to discuss things like "which one is the greater value?" or "do you need all those bells and whistles?"

Honestly? I'm Sick of it. I like focusing on interesting wars, like the HD-DVD Vs. Blu-Ray.

This console gen is pretty much laid out too easily to see who is the superior. No real challenge. PS3 and 360 are equal imho. Yet 2007 was the year of the 360. Wii is the most popular, but least played it seems by many consumers who tried so hard to hunt it down, but now cry that there's no games for it or the other systems are too pricy. Yet what dawns on me, is they dished out enough cash for that Wii, that they've easily could have had a 360 by now (Games, accessories and such). Sometimes when price is an issue, you really have to look at the bigger picture here imho. Yet when they have the motivate of "Gotta have it NOW!" I don't think they care at all.

I think the whole console war rhetoric is simply stupid. Hating one console because your buddies don't like it seems pointless. Most of the time there's no valid reason. Remember the "Sega Sucks" talk of the 90s? Silence is what I got when I asked why. In my opinion, save up and buy all three. The PS3 for great games and Blu-ray, the 360 for game selection, and the Wii for fun in group settings. If one doesn't appeal to you, then sell it.

I voted "who cares". I have all three systems, so I tend to know alot about each one. I back up each system when it's being trashed, whether it be Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft. And contrary to popular belief, the Wii is my favorite system out of the lot. But when people start arguing, it's the same old arguments over and over again. It just goes around in circles. Everyone tries to make a point, but nobody on this site has ever switched positions and said "oh you're right. I love the Wii now better than my 360" or "oh yes, you're right. Tomorrow I'm selling my 360 and buying a PS3". It does, however, provide quite a laugh for me though. :)

Analysts are saying 2008 will be the year of the PS3, and there's some even that believe that when the PS3 drops in price, it will make the Wii start bombing. I doubt that considering the Wii has a decent line-up for 2008, but I do think PS3 will have a much better year this year, though.

The question was posed in EGM: Is the Wii's momentum going to last?

"I think the Wii's momentum lasts until the PlayStation 3 is under $300, so another year." Wedbush Morgan Securities Financial Analyst Michael Pachter

"Yes, and it's possible that the Wii will be one of the hottest holiday gifts of 2008 as well as 2007, which is fairly unique situation historically and partly the result of the current supply/demand imbalance. By then, there will be a plethora of new games and peripherals such as Wii Fit. It's also possible that there will be a pricing adjustment by then and even new hardware SKUs." Entertainment Fund Management President Ted Pollak

"Yes, I still think the Wii offers the most appealing console to the widest audience in terms of price, innovation, and accessibility. With more third-party software becoming available, increased production, and the [release of] Mario Kart, [it] should mean the momentum will last throughout 2008." - KBC Financial Analyst Hiroshi Kamide

The question: With a lineup that includes the likes of Killzone 2, Final Fantasy XIII, and Metal Gear Solid 4, will 2008 finally be Sony's year?:

"I think Sony will make great strides in 2008. Killzone 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, LittleBigPlanet, Final Fantasy XIII, and a number of other titles will help stimulate sales. Additionally, a number of peripherals such as the PlayStation Eye and its associated titles will give the console a boost. I am also running into people who have purchased the PS3 for its Blu-ray player--with gaming as a secondary motivation--and that's another element to consider." Ted Pollack

"2008 is definitely Sony's year. And I'd throw Grand Theft Auto IV into the mix, given that it's considered a PS2 owner's [franchise]. Also, Gran Turismo 5: Prologue should sell some consoles...." Michael Pachter

"No--Sony will do better in 2008, but with exclusive software becoming more of an exception than the rule, things will still remain difficult. I think, however, that the industry will begin to see the 'potential' of the system after the release of MGS4. But it'll remain a distant third in the current cycle." Hiroshi Kamide

Question: Does the departure of developer Bungie and EA buying Bioware (which primarily made Xbox and 360 titles) mean that Microsoft's first-party business is collapsing?:

"I wouldn't say it's collapsing. I think with Bungie's departure, Microsoft is now free to spend money on new intellectual properties and riskier projects, which is both challenging and potentiall rewarding from a profit-margin standpoint. This is also good for gamers, because we like fresh experiences." Ted Pollak

"I think Microsoft's first-party lineup is weakening, but I think that exclusives like Splinter Cell: Conviction will keep them going for another year. They also have the resources to sign third-party exclusives." Michael Pachter

"This is a setback, but Microsoft has enough resources and an attractive business to entice other studios to come onboard." Hiroshi Kamide

People still think FFXIII is in 08? Sad.

Anyways, I like the console debate, especially this early on. That way, you're able to change your views if you want when you buy a new console.

Those predictions are about on with what I think will happen, Mai: The Wii will continue putting up great sales, the PS3 will have a huge surge in 2008, and the 360 will start to lose momentum.

The PS3 needs a cheaper console without getting rid of stuff before it makes a big enough surge, I think. I'm completely ignoring the $400 one since it got rid of so much. Plus, no FFXIII next year seems like a problem for their surge. As for the 360, it doesn't have a ton of exclusives, but odds are it'll still sell the most copies of the shared games, just for having the bigger number of consoles. The Wii will continue to sell like a monster for several reasons. Everyone still wants one, it has some awesome games coming out quickly next year, and the big one is Wii Fit. Odds are the Balance Board won't be sold alone, so everyone who wants it for the future games will buy Wii Fit, plus, like it or not, it's big. It's the casual bang they've wanted since Wii Sports.

Haha, this thread is about to become a console wars thread. Can you say "irony"? :lol

Most aren't, as is evident by its sales tripling as soon as the $400 model came out.

Most of the Final Fantasy fanbase is in Japan. I would be very surprised if it didn't hit store shelves there, by the end of 2008. Rest assured, it will make quite an impact, even if it doesn't hit store shelves over here.

Yeah, but if you look at everything they removed, you'll want to fork over an extra $100, too.

No backwards compatibility? Get a PS2 it's less than $75. Not as many USB slots get a USB hub, they cost $2. No wi-fi, get the wireless router for the PS3 its from Logitech so you know its good, its like $20, and it also works on the 360.

All that stuff totals $97. :/ I'd prefer everything built in, it' a lot nicer to have, so even if I could save $3 buying everything separate, I'd buy the $500 PS3.

Take into account the fact that almost everyone in the freaking world has a PS2, and you're down to $423.

That's what I was gonna say but I thought it was too obvious. :lol
