She was called "Princess Toadstool" in SMB and "Pauline" before that in Donkey Kong.

Actually, Pauline was a different person alltogether. She's Mario's original girlfriend who appeared in the original Donkey Kong and later in Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2 for the DS.
