DC game not working...

Hi guys, and gals,
As some of you might know, I scored some DC games for dirt cheap last night. But I have one that seems to not be working, and I can't figure out why.
It is the Sonic Adventure "Sega All Stars" series. The disk is almost flawless. There are five scratches that are not even a millimeter in length. They are deep enough to notice that they are present. And they are on the outermost part of the disk.
When I pop it in and hit the power button, I get the DC title screen. I can hear the console move the lens, and nothing. The white title screen with the Dreamcast logo is all I get. No game title screen. And last night I checked all my other games, and they all worked. Except for this one. Is there anyone that can explain to me what is going on? Can it be that when I start it up, I have the memory card plugged in, and it is searching for a saved file??
 
I haven't tried it without the memory card yet, and the label is perfect. Except for one spot where someone wrote the initials "T.M.C" on it with a Sharpie. I thought of making an attempt on removing it, but with what I don't know. Can that be my problem??

Maybe if the ink went through the label. can you see it on the other side of the disc? It might prevent the laser from properly reading data.
 
Nope. I can barely see the markings when I look at it with backlighting.
From what I see, there is absolutely no reason this game cannot work. My DC is in perfect running order. the disk is nearly flawless, and when I see the back of the jewel case, it says NTSC/U. So it's obviously not an import. It's getting frustrating...  :hh

Frustrating EDIT:
I unplugged the memory card, fired it up and got nada. I think I will throw in the towel, head back to the place I got it and exchange it. Or I could get the VMU that they had for $5. Decisions, decisions...
 
doubt its a vmu problem.

Hold the disc up to a light.... can you see ANY scratches, holes, etc.. on the label side, THROUGH the bottom side?

Nope. It's perfect in that regard. No holes. No scratches, Nothing at all. I am beginning to think it was a currupt disk from the get-go. Because I have checked everything.

An off topic question for you, BV. Who is "The Godfather"? :lol
 
I've not run into any bad discs yet.... that is a possibility though :) I had one customer return a game to me as faulty.... but every time I tested it... it works. Sold it to someone else.. and no complaints.... but I do know they happen sometimes.

The Godfather? :lol Does "You're my boy Blue!" ring any bells? :lol

Best part is either when they play Master of Puppets in the background for when they are going to get the pledgers, or when they sing dust in the wind.

@ARES, the best part is when Will Ferrell gets shot in the neck with the tranquilizer. "YES, Thats awsome!" "You just took one in the jugular!" :lol

Its Old School :lol :) Ever seen it? I saw it not that long ago for the 1st time..... some parts are just downright nasty.... but other parts are hilarious.

That neck shot is just PAINFUL!!
The another funny part is when that guy is trying to give mouth to mouth with will ferrell.... and will is dreaming... and starts kissing the guy cause he thinks its his wife. " AWWW ... he just gave me the tongue" or whatever he says.. thats nasty :lol I think he kicks him back in the water, right?

well i dont remember it all, and this may be a little wrong, but I remember when they had to tie something to their you know what and then the guy fell off. I cant exactly remember what happened, I just know it was funny.

Me too. :lol

And no, I haven't seen Old School. I heard that it was nasty, so I kind of shied away from it.
