Hi Members,

Do you think that rich people deserve special treatment when it comes to taxes, as opposed to the average income worker?

Myself,I don't really know enough about this topic to talk about it intelligently as some members, which is why I posted this.To perhaps, gain a better understanding.

Peace,

It depends what you mean by "special", as the higher your income is, the more you have to pay. That is the special treatment they get, but the very very rich usually exploit loopholes and tax shelters. They will still probably pay a higher rate than your average person, but they will sometimes pay less than some people who make less than them.

But in the end, rich people are not taxed very differently. They invariably end up paying more than the average person (because they can afford to).

I dont agree with the idea that because you make more income then you must owe more money. It is kind of unfair to move all of the "tax burden" on the people who worked the hardest to gain the most in the world.

And actually, I believe in the Book Freakonomics that we had to read for college from these economists and people, you are safe no matter how you earn your money as long as you owe taxes, so a mobster can, if caught, also be charged for evading taxes from the IRS if they never reported it...though if they did report then they could avoid that charge :)

They have no idea how much money was made, however so it would be near impossible to accurately tax him. Proving how he made his money, and how much he made is very difficult so you usually don't see mobsters getting taxed. Basically, anything done under the table is difficult to tax because the whole idea is that the government doesn't know about it.
