Do You Think That There Is a Cure for The Common Cold?

I'm inclined to say yes,just because these days you can't really trust anyone,let alone Pharmaceutical companies.They would lose a lotta cash on otc medications.

The reason there is no cure for diseases such as the common cold or AIDS isn't because of some cabal trying to extort money from us. It is because they are viral diseases. Viruses are notoriously hard to destroy in any event, antibiotics have no effect on them. Antiviral drugs are also ineffective because they don't actually destroy pathogens, just slow their development. I believe that in my health class it was explained that the cold virus doesn't replicate itself perfectly because it is an RNA based virus, and thus it is always changing its physical properties and is made much harder to target. Grindspine can probably be more informative on this than I can, but there are scientific reasons.

Simply put, anyone who has done even basic research into the matter would know that the reason a cure doesn't exist is because it hasn't been developed yet. Not because of some insane conspiracy theory.

Yes, pharmaceutical companies make money off of people being sick.. But you forget that the people who develop cures are actual people. They have feelings and emotions, and they would not put effort into developing a cure that will never see the light of day because of money.

There are MANY variants of rhinovirus, adenovirus, and influenza virus that cause "cold like" symptoms. With "the flu", usually only a few strains dominate each year, which is why a vaccine can protect against those few strains, but people can still occasionally get other flu strains. Rhinovirus, on the other hand, has far too many strains that constantly are present in the population. An effective vaccine cannot be created because with that many strains, the body would be trying to produce small amounts of several antibodies, most of which would never come in contact with the particular antigen that they would be effective against.

In simple, the viral strain that causes the common cold is constantly shifting it's genetic coding, so no matter how many cures are made to assist in getting the sick better, there will always be a strain that will appear in a new way and could go from causing migranes one year, to a nasty sore throat the next, etc.

If someone ever invents a vaccine that can cure any of the common cold strains that appear, they would make billions upon billions. 'Course, that day will unfortunately come just as quickly as a cure for AIDs will.
