Does Having A Small Collection Of Titles Make Someone Any Less Of A Gamer?

Myself,I don't think so.I may not have as many titles as most of you,but being a gamer is about being passionate about gaming as a whole, not just by the quantity of all your gear and the various accessories.I think sometimes people don't stop and realize, what makes them who they are.Do you think that because some members who have a lesser amount of games than most others means that a title such as "Final Fantasy VII" for example, wasn't enjoyed on the same level when they played it because of an inferior amount games owned?

God Bless.

I stopped caring about the whole gamer mentality back when I was 12. I love playing Videogames and have alot of old games and I like it when my friends and I have different consoles. Like we all have PS3s but we always get together and play my Dreamcast :P I'm not gonna think my opinion is better than theirs because I have more systems I'm always open to their recommendations or play what they want.

Long story short, not at all.
Also I couldn't get into FFVII lol

Completely disagree.

I don't know. I think having a large library is a by-product of being a serious gamer. The only reason why a serious gamer would not have such a large collection is due to money. Otherwise, most would have a huge collection.

Having a collection doesn't make you a gamer, and being a gamer doesn't mean you have to have a collection.

People collect the strangest things for the strangest reasons. $10 says there's someone out there with the complete N64 library, yet they never play any of it.

Being a collector and having a collection can be different. I'm a collector and there are a few games that I don't play because I don't really want to hook the system up, but the games that I buy for the 360 aren't for collecting. I bought them because I wanted to play them, and with the 360, there were a lot of games I wanted to play. So my "collection" has grown pretty big.

There is more to being a gamer than playing and collecting video games .I enjoy card games, board games, and hell, even game shows.I forgot the original "D&D" from Gygax.

There was this guy who owned every Dreamcast game, soon as he finished he put the whole thing on eBay, some people collect to sell later. Some people sell their old games to buy new ones.

Someone could own more than another guy but that doesn't mean he's played or beaten more games.

Also maybe some people rather just only play games Arcades. Think that sounds more like a gamer to me :P

Uh, Kaz I'm pretty sure those don't fall under the same category

Yes, I think when you say gamer, on this forum at least, people kind of assume you mean video games. And while my first response was sarcastic I do somewhat agree with Creepin'. If you are really into gaming it is just inevitable that your collection of games would be larger than a more casual gamer. For one, I think more serious gamers hold onto their games, even after they have beat them. Secondly, when you really, really love gaming, it's gonna be what you spend the majority of your money on, and even when you are broke you'll find ways to acquire games {I know all about that one :D}.

They are, but they are not video games. It's like saying you're a huge baseball fan, just because you love football. They're both sports, but totally different.

Yeah but you couldn't put someone who races cars in the same category as someone who races animals or a guy who washes dishes with a guy who washes windows on a scaffolding

I don't really think size matters and it also depends on your financial situation or if your saving up for something quite expensive like i am. I won't be getting games for a good while and my PS3 and 360 collection combined doesn't even break the 50 mark i guess for me it's more quality over quantity type of deal.

But to say i'm less of gamer because i don't have many games is stupid ive been gaming ever since i was 5 years old maybe even younger so i think i qualify as a serious gamer.

Well i'm posting on a gaming forum you can't really get any more serious than that :p.

No, it's called being poor. :p

As much as I would love to buy more games, it's not that easy for me right now. I have a tiny collection compared to alot of people in the forum and I would like to think I am a true gamer...

True GM, but someday I bet you will have a pretty nice collection! And for the record, I do have a lot of games, but I actually spend VERY little on them. I buy 99% of my games used, and when I said "hundreds" of games, that is mostly old NES games which ranged from about 50 cents to a couple of bucks. I think it was funcoland or something similar but they literally had a giant bin of random NES games that were dirt cheap {I miss that so much}. Same with my PS1 collection, most of those games were bought very cheap.

I don't have a 360, a Wii, or a PS3...

However, I have two gaming computers, a Playstation, PS2, GBA, DS, SNES, NES, and Xbox.

I game on a budget due mostly to paying tuition to finish college. But, that doesn't stop me from getting together with friends and playing games.

My parents only have Atari and Nintendo systems and could seriously outplay anyone on this forum in Mario Kart, Mario Golf, or any Zelda game.
