I believe it was just part of the reason. But if you'd read the reasoning behind number one, you might see it from his point of view.
 
I'm shocked Rinoa isn't on it-- most people seem to think she is extremely annoying, from what I read online.
 
I didn't mind Yuffie either and that part of the storyline was pretty cool, IMO. I guess it didn't bother me as much that she stole my materia since I was already above level 70 when I got to her.
