dot hack Question

Ok, I just got dot hack part 1 on the PS2 and I have a question to anyone that might know...

I'm interested in the anime series and also want to eventually play all 4 of the games, but i'm confused on what to do first. Should I watch the anime first or play the games? Does it matter at all plot wise if I choose one before the other?
 
Well, the game takes place at the same time as the anime, you'll run into a couple people from the anime and they intertwine slightly, but you should still play the game first. The Manga takes place a few years after.
 
I think that the dot.hack//sign series takes place before the game while the dot.hack//legend of the twilight series takes place after the games. But I'm not really sure.
 
Really? Well, I haven't played the game, so I don't know. I put the games on my Christmas list, so hopefully I'll at least get one of them.
 
I think the .hack//liminality dvd that comes with the game is the same time as the game. i think anyway. Thought the dvd doesn't have any of the character that you play as in the dvd. The anime is kinda like...hard to explain...you know how your friend i think disapeared its telling the story of like that. ~hmm hope that made sence~. I haven't completed the game ~acutallly ive got to start again lol cause i had to delete my file lol ran out of room on my MC~ but i watched the dvd anyway
