I don't think it's really necessary to get a guide, is one of the very few games that I've played through that I didn't need or want to use one. With all the DLC and sidequests, I easily put in 50-60 + hours (that's not including Awakening, I haven't played it yet). I'm on my 4th character now actually, a F Cousland Warrior tank.
