Dumb driving mistakes?

Ok guys....time to fess up and tell me some of your dumbest driving mistakes! I know there's not a driver in the world who has not made a mistake, so don't even try saying you haven't :D I'll start with something I did just today. I was gassing up and while filling up the tank I had my rear door open to talk to my passenger. Well, you know how hectic gas stations can be, so somewhere in there I forgot to close the rear door :lol I was driving out and everybody was looking at me and I was like wth!?? Luckily though I made a hard right turn and it closed on it's own rather than flopping open!

Another one that happened a few months ago was that I was stopped at a red light and I was looking at the car next to me for some reason or another. Well, out of the corner of my eye I saw the light turn green so I kind slammed on the gas lol...BUT... it was the next light up, mine was still red! So, I had to slam on the brakes half way out into street. I probably should have just gunned it and kept going, but eh, I'd rather look like an idiot than get a ticket.

Some other ones- Switched lanes without looking and literally was a foot away from side swiping some dude, hit the gas instead of brake {yea yea...we've all done that}, almost forgot to turn the car off while gassing up, and just some little crap like driving in the turn only lanes, hopping curbs at drive thru's, etc :lol

I haven't done anything stupid. xD
But I've only had my license 10 months. xD
 
Oh don't worry my friend...they will come... :D But ya know, when it does happen, just remember that it happens to everybody and if you learn from it you're all the better!
 
Amazing. I am on a forum full of absolutely perfect and flawless drivers {well except one I guess}! :lol
 
Well my high beams were on by accident. I had no idea they were on until the cop pulled me over. I apologized since I had no idea they were on, but he continued to verbally yell at me. The ticket was for $83 :(
 
Wow that is weak man! He must of been having a bad day or something. If I were a cop I can't imagine even ticketing somebody for something like that, just give them a warning and be done with it.
 
My biggest driving mistake was actually during my driver's exam. I have yet to be pulled over, so I guess this is as good as it gets for me until that happens. :p

The driving test started out okay, but I felt like something was off. About halfway through the exam I realized the problem -- I wasn't wearing my glasses (I'm required by law to wear them when I drive... my vision isn't terrible, but I couldn't read the last line of the vision test). I immediately pulled over in the neighborhood we were in, stopped the car, and informed the instructor/evaluator that I forgot to put on my glasses. I put them on and continued, and at one point I uttered "That just did me in, didn't it?" He responded with "Don't say that yet, we're not finished."

He passed me. The only thing I screwed up on was I signaled too early for a left turn, but that was it. He didn't even mention that I forgot my glasses, haha.
 
That's cool, you could have got a real jerk like I had on my first exam {which I failed miserably lol}. I swear the guy was so mean I just lost my cool entirely and basically forgot how to drive. It sucked bad. Second time had a nice lady and passed perfectly. What a difference it can make!

Edit: Mega, were you not in a crash a while back? If I recall correctly it was not your fault at all, right?
 
Well ive SEEN plenty of driving mistakes but haven't had any of my own considering i don't even have my license.

This one time i saw a guy texting on his by the looks of it blackberry with both hands and he was staring with his elbows -facepalm- he was actually slowly swerving all over the place and this one car had to quickly dodge him...god i hate people like that such a selfish thing to do i mean let's face it a car is like a really big bullet and if your a reckless driver it just means your putting every one around you at risk.

Correct, it was a rear ended crash. She came up from behind me without looking, while I had my turn signal on.
 
Ugh. I am always afraid of that while sitting at lights. I just heard a story the other day of a guy who kinda did what I did {saw the next light up was green} but he was behind somebody and he rear ended them. Man that would be so embarrassing. I bet she felt horrible huh?

She went into a ditch, her arm was badly scarred. Her car was crushed like a tuna can. She was screaming bloody murder and asked me if I was okay. I had a lovely whelp on my forehead and I woke up facing the opposite direction of the road. I said to her, "Forget me, are YOU okay?"

The worst part for her? SHE HAD NO INSURANCE and her dreaded step-mother was on the way over. She got into that car, you could hearing roaring and crying. I was fine, but that poor girl had hell to pay.
 
Wow..that is awful. Poor girl :-\ You know but at the very least everybody walked away and someday she will have a great story to tell her grandkids!
 
The only mistake i've ever made while driving is I ended up rear ending someone in a McDonalds drive thru cause i wasnt close enough to the drive thru window. so i back up into a car.
 
Once when i was just learning, I thought I'd put the car into gear, but it was in neutral. it slipped on the mud and now the left passenger door as a small dint from where it slid into the tree. No real harm done. The car's old and stuff anyway.

I've was at a traffic light, and another car like mine pulled up next to me. Figured they'd be slow and i didn't want to be stuck behind them all the way home, so I figured I'd get a good start and get ahead before the double lanes merges.
... the car stalled as i took off, and I hesitated, tried to start it, and almost forgot to put the handbrake on before I did. The car behind me was really annoyed! :p
 
Oh, I've made my share. :lol When I first started driving, one very late night I was sleepy and treated a red light like a stop sign. And as luck would have it, the one car in sight was a cop. :-\ Luckily he just warned me (I cried like crazy). More recently, when driving up to the mountains one weekend, forgot to double-check to my left coming out of a gas station (it was kind of a blind curve) and almost took out a couple motorcycles. :o

Just this last weekend barely avoided a wreck-- car in front of us had the front right tire blow out; he flew to the left (was probably going 75 when it happened), hit the guard rail, flew back across to the right and wound up in the ditch. Luckily my husband was hanging back a bit. The guy was fine; hubby said he was surprised his car didn't flip.

I admit driving makes me very nervous... I make frequent weekend trips to the N.C. mountains but always drive late at night because I really can't handle Atlanta traffic (no real way to avoid the area w/o going way out of the way; but the 85 and 285 aren't too bad at 3-5 in the morning, haha).
 
Oh yea Paka, I am the same way. I avoid the freeway at ALL costs. A tire blow out is one of my biggest fears. I just hope that if it ever happens I am not in a horrible spot like the freeway. Yikes.
